I have lately come across the term "semi private" when it comes down to linkshell and free company chat channels while trying to make a report about an individual constantly using racist and sexist slurs consistently and openly in conversations within the game. In conversation with a GM it came to my knowledge that they can't act upon it because of these channels having privacy issues attached to them as they're exactly public and people opt into those communities and as such it's protected somehow from intervention. This kind of thing seriously needs a revision of the official stance if that is the case.
While I can understand the point that was made to me, disagreements between members and other things going on private should be handled between the parties themselves and the leader of the LS/FC should be responsible for the things going on. What I have a really hard time understanding is a GM telling me a clear ToS violation inside the game is being left out of jurisdiction on a principle of it being condoned by the members using the slurs or the silent agreement of others just tolerating it. While the optional nature of the communication channel gives freedom to ignore and leave if feeling offended, I don't think accepting people shouting the N-word and F-word publicly when people are not involved in the conversation and forced to listen to it regardless if they don't want to turn free company chat off is a bit disgusting and avoiding action on these ground somewhat debatable. Especially in a community where the majority are people I and otherse enjoy interacting with. I'm all for privacy and letting people solve issues amongst themselves but using the term "semi private" should not be a defence to clear ToS violations especially since ToS clearly states derogatory terms used in chat, not specifying, is clearly an offence. I don't think racism should be acceptable in any manner regardless of its unfortunate existence in this time and age.
Apologies for the long rant but I was asked to leave feedback and there is no other feedback forum for issues like this.
