    DirectX crashes [Solved]

I've been monitoring/lurking this forum for awhile now ever since my game started to crash followed by a fatal directx error notification. At first it happens rarely and until it crashed right after I logged in.

I managed to fix it though I'm not sure it's temporary or it will become worse over time.

So what happened was, after FFXIV is unplayable due to the constant crash, I play other games to see if the problem is unique to FFXIV or its just my PC. I found out that, some other games also crashes but rarely. It seems like FFXIV are more susceptible to the crash than the other games I have in my PC( The Division, Monster Hunter etc.)

I've tried all the fixes posted by other user in this forum and what's working for me so far is:
    • underclock my GPU by -30MHz
    • Run the game at 60FPS, making sure the frame limiter is on (Not on your in-game screen resolution Hz). Mine was running at 144Hz

The fix works for me for a week, then after that FFXIV started to get rare random crash again. Other games however still runs as normal.

So I underclock my GPU again by -100MHz. And right now its running without crash even after hours. I'm not sure if this is temporary but I'll update this post.

TL;DR Seems like the problem is coming from the hardware. FFIXV is more susceptible to crash than other game which, it seems like only FFXIV is having this problem. (Maybe because FFXIV engine itself can reach more than 200fps without the frame limiter, idk)

I'll try replace my GPU or PSU to see if it will fix the problem.

    [Solved]
After extensive cleaning on my GPU, and dust of my Mobo especially on the PCI-E Slot, the crashes stopped even without underclocking and frame limiter. Played for hours now with 144fps without issues. Really happy I got it fixed.

FFXIV pushes the GPU hard, You can use a program called RivaTuner Statistics Server to limit the frame rate to whatever you want. You can also use the task manager to see the GPU utilization, take the frame rate down so utilization goes to 85-90% and you'll probably also mask the problem. GPU is probably overheating.

My GPU temp always goes around 70°C when gaming , so its not overheating. Even without underclocking, the temp stays around that limit.

    Nvidia or AMD cards?

I have a Geforce GTX Titan X and after the lastest nvidia driver update, my FFXIV would crash without fail and throw a DX error 110000002. I tried using DX9, but it would cause my PC to hang instead of crashing to desktop.

I downgraded by drivers to an earlier release (430.86) and haven't crashed in like... 5 hours of playing, which was literally impossible on the newest driver (431.60).

    Maybe give that a shot.

It might not be hitting the peak thermal limit but it might be hitting a thermal limit at that GPU load for that clock speed. I bet over volting will also fix the issue.

I see, I'll keep my eye on the GPU temperature then. Maybe I'll re-apply thermal paste on my GPU and see if that fix something.

Nvidia. I already tried downgraded mine but no changes (I forgot which version).Maybe I'l try to downgrade the driver even further to see if it fix something.

Out of curiosity, were you getting artifacts or blue/purple patches on the screen before a crash?
I have a friend with this issue currently - will forward what you did and see if that works for her.

Act in such a way that you treat humanity, whether in your own person or in the person of another, always at the same time as an end and never simply as a means

It did crashed with some green/purple orbs sometimes but rarely(maybe twice), usually its freeze and crashed and directx error pops up.
