That was a fantastic read, Nix.
To be fair, housing should be a bit exclusive.
Sure there need to be more plots for people so a larger portion of the playerbase can get a house but devaluing houses by making instanced housing is the worst thing SE could do.
I think apartments are a good solution.
This is coming from someone who just owns an apartment & has owned a house in the past.
All they need to do is add plots, wards & housing districts. And make buying a house less frustrating.
Perhaps both models would be a good solution? Instance larger plots(regardless of actually house size) for private use, in essence rural plots, farmland, ranches ect, and leave the public wards in place as something to possible move into one day, or atleast as gathering halls for FCs as they would still be always on public locations.
I need help with your math... Right now the inside of all the houses are instanced. They are only running on a server if someone is inside. The wards are static and running permanently. So 18 wards x 2 (main ward & subdivision) x 4 districts = 144 housing zones permanently running per server. I mean, it's still a lot, but not anything close to what you were talking about.I would prefer instanced housing to be honest. I'd rather sacrifice the current system for one where wards feel alive rather than ghost towns. This would allow everyone to get their house in the location they want. Possibly add in more NPCs to make the wards feel more lived in and it will be fine.
Ideally if instanced it would generate the housing 'when required' meaning unless 10k people all happened to visit their houses on the same server at the same time it would be a lot less taxing on servers compared to running 4320 housing zones permanently on each server.
