I'm really not seeing why people have such an issue with healers that DPS. Makes the dungeons go by faster.

Nothings wrong when a healer DPSes but there is something wrong when the healer prioritises DPS over healing and starts letting people die. That's what the initial complaint is about.
"Sometimes I wonder I heal for fun. or if I heal because I'm a glutton for punishment."
Healer DPS is awesome! All tanks should just be PLD so healers don't have to heal. Healer DPS is more important than Tank DPS..... duh......
But seriously, healer DPS is great, unless they let someone die, then it is a waste of time. Hero or Zero, no in-between.
This is true, and like all things it will come with time and experience. By 5.2 Id expect all of us to look back at this and ask why where we even bothering with it all. Some groups deal with this better than others. Healing with SCH I barely notice the healing debuff. As long as the person they're tethered to doesn't panic and keeps them within the pack you can AoE off them and they'll die in a reasonable amount of time. When the person tethered decides they need to kite it all over and the melee DPS can't keep up it becomes a problem.![]()
Largesse is gone. So healers have to pay attention now when they used to be able to layer uber potent heals/shields and go back to dps'ing. The cadence is broken and they're trying to find it again. As someone who heals fairly regularly (but is not Healer main), I find it to be more tedious--especially when you factor in that a lot of skill mechanics depend on whether you're in combat or not. And not JUST in combat but on the aggro table. You can't imagine how annoying that is for setting up cards--for all that we had to be uber careful with prepulling with our heals, now you HAVE to get that attack or heal in or that card you drew will not impact your aoe buff. As for SCH, it's always been the healer with the higher learning curve because a large portion of its effectiveness is in mitigation, not healing. So im not super surprised when i see people just spamming attack spells--sadly there's little middle ground with the class. Either you're pretty freaking good, or you're pretty freaking bad. (This will be my new preferred healer--I can't stand AST anymore).
In my experience, paradoxically, it's the honest healers that I usually end up wiping with. I think they're more likely to just try to save all the OGCDs for emergencies and never actually use them?
I have to confess having healed the dungeons a lot I wasn't even aware that this is a thing. It's always just been pull everything, stack them up and AoE.Some groups deal with this better than others. Healing with SCH I barely notice the healing debuff. This very much.
Today I was tanking a level 60 dungeon so everyone was overgeared for that content, I did a large pull with around 20 enemies which went fantastic until the end, but when there were 2 enemies left and I was low on HP, the healer wasted 3 GCDs and prioritized DPS so I ended up dying. I immediatelly quitted the dungeon. No regrets.
I was never happy to see how "healer focus on healing and DPS as a bonus" turn into "dont heal till your tank is 10% and cast as much as DPS as possible", i believe in heal first and only cast dps skill when the healer feel comfortable.I blame the community for that one. Especially in NA. Before I knew what class to pick, I avoided healing because I was new, not used to the controls, and kept seeing a high focus on healing+dps and info-graphs on weaving and this and that. To a new player who's never touched an mmo like XIV, it's intimidating. And this was when Heavensward was still new.
It's super simplified, but that old info is still out there and with jump potions, people cal get right up in there.
I think I'm an alright healer. I know my limits and can't DPS in wall to wall pulls, but heck, I'm sure some of the people in this thread would think I'm the worst healer they've ever encountered because I prefer to keep the tank over 30%
I play all three roles, WAR/GNB, AST, and most of the DPS. I can understand if a healer want to push for the limit in a pre-made, as a tank or dps I know what my healer capable of, so I could adjust accordingly. However, in DF, I never let the tank drop below 40% unless it is a boss fight (wont go down to 10% either). As a tank seeing the healer dropping my HP so low and I have to pray the healer do not forget to get me back up or no sudden lag spike, it is very stressful, and such stress is not induce by the game play itself but the other party member.
