I have had Rescue used on me exactly twice, both times i had screwed up and rescue saved my ass. If it's a daily thing for you, the problem most probably is you that every day i healer feels the need to use it on you.
I see no need to use it on me when I am in a dungeon and moving to a pack of mobs with the other 2 DPS and healer in tow, to be yanked back as soon as I engage in combat then get stuck in the damned terrain at my feet mid way. I see no need to use it in any MSQ roulette while myself and the other tank or gathering and collecting mobs while another healer triggers doors etc in Prae while DPS burn the mobs down.
I see no need ever to use it on me ever, period. But I've taken care of the problem myself, I simply Shirk the healer from here on out, and keep going without them since in normal dungeons I don't need them.
I've used it many times to save people. I've also used it to troll people. My favorite troll was when me and my friend got The Weeping City of Mhach and we would position ourselves on opposite sides of the arena and rescue our tank one way and then the other. I said something like "you guys ever see that show Chip 'n Dale: Rescue Rangers? That was a great show." I don't think anyone got the joke and we continued to rescue the tank every time it was off cooldown for the rest of the run. Good times.
No idea where the hate comes from i love that ability, it saved me a ton of times as a tank in the content i was new at.
Its one of those unique spells left int the game, i wish se will ignore your petty whining and leave it be.
I would say instead of trying to do a band-aid fix, just use the already in-game report system. You can find a player's name and world under Main Menu > Social > Contacts and then fill out the report under harassment and provide a detailed report of the greifing so said player can spend a night in the Mordion Gaol! 8D
I repeat my earlier question: SMN and RDM rescue when? They both have (and generally are higher priority in using) raise than a healer of the same group. As long as a healer has to revive you if you die you shouldn't be able to dictate their capacity to save you. If revives were removed from the game then yes you could remove rescue or add a toggle. But the truth is you dying is much more of an issue for the healer and the group than it is for yourself.
I have no opinion on rescue, I just find this logic silly.
I have used it once for ill reason perhaps. Had a NIN who kept breaking off from the group to pull more down the hall of the newer dungeon, name escapes me but the new one in the final zone. First time he did it I ignored it. Thinking okay, maybe they are on comms and tank asked but then made no sense as tank has been single pulling and he could just do it himself. So when the NIN went for it again you can bet I roped his tail back. Didn't stop him tho but bought the tank a few more seconds.
Part of the hate comes from the fact that people do use it to troll other players, rare though it is. Another part comes from the input delay that often sees people getting killed on quick casts. Frankly the later would go away if they fixed the timing for getting the grabbed person from Point A to Point B so it'd be viable in more content - potentially with a longer recast to compensate. The former however is just a consequence of the ability's potential to be used to make someone's day go poorly.
Is rescue really used in a trolling way? I get that you can accidentally "rescue" someone to his death. There have been some funny stories about E3N on this forum but that's not trolling at all. The only time I've seen it used in a trolling manner was by myself when me and my FC tried to kill our tanks with rescue. This sounds more like a "I got trolled once in hundreds of fights, fix this ASAP"-situtation. A toggle immunity would be awkward for a healer. How do you give the healer a cue that a person can't be rescued? After the cast failed? Via a buff on the UI? This sounds like a such an unneeded hassle and at that point getting rid of the skill allthogether is the better option.
No.
The proper usage of Rescue is far more common than the trolling usage. And half the time when people THINK they are being trolled with Rescue, they aren't. They just don't understand the (valid) reason they were rescued and don't bother to ask, and instead come to complain here and on Reddit.
