    So....about PLD's block....

Can anybody confirm if the % of danage that blocking mitigates will be buffed as we get stronger shields similar to how it's worked in the past? 20% just feels...kinda bad.

I always felt that PLDs should be the bulkiest of the Tanks; one of their defining features should be that they take the least damage. I mean, they're the only Tank with an actual shield for goodness sake lol.

I felt like 30% was a pretty good number, so I'm hoping we can get back up to that point.

PLD's block going back up to 30% should be compensated by a significant decrease in damage.

A quick rundown of how quickly % Reduction affects EHP.

What is EHP: Effective Hit Points. If you have 100 Health but ignore 20% of the damage you take, it effectively takes 125 points of damage to kill you.

    5% Reduction : 105.5% EHP
    10% Reduction : 111% EHP
    15% Reduction : 118% EHP
    20% Reduction : 125% EHP
    25% Reduction : 134% EHP
    30% Reduction : 144% EHP
    40% Reduction : 172% EHP
    50% Reduction : 200% EHP

All Mitigative Effects are multiplicative. This means instead of rampart and Shadow Wall (For example) being 50% mitigation, they are 80% x 70% (.8 x .7) for a total of 44% mitigation. The easiest way to deal with these calculations is to think of them as the EHP values multiplying each other. 20% + 30% = 1.25 x 1.44.

With this in mind, we can look at the 4 short CD abilities

    Heart of Stone: 118% EHP
The Blackest Night: +25% MEHP [The blackest night is a shield, and therefore will always add 25% of your Maximum Hit Points, and benefits from mitigative effects)
    Raw Intuition: 125% EHP
Shelltron: As shelltron scales, you can use the handy chart up there to see it's relative strength to the others.

Does that take into account the fact they lowered block/parry/dodge %? Or, are these numbers from Stormblood tanking? Thanks for this information, BTW.

This is information from a purely mathematical point of view. So long as the numbers match it is correct.

Regarding parry specifically, parry has been lowered to 15% damage reduction. I don't have the numbers on rate, however it sounds like the speculation is that Block was lowered proportionally as well.

All of the defensive abilities were lowered (parry/dodge/block). They covered that in one of the streams prior to 5.0. I believe it was in the one where they were talking about how they also removed protect, I can probably find it if you like to see that one.

30% would only really be permissible if the mitigation thus provided had a %HP cap, which I'm not sure the devs would even know how to do.

By removing the 6 second "works on everything" duration they gave it.
