    I really like Monk c:

I'm not being ironic; I really enjoy the class. It's my favourite DPS. I just thought maybe I'd make a thread about it since there are already a lot of threads dealing with problems that the class has.

Disclaimer: I'm pretty casual. I don't normally do Savage / Extreme content, but I feel comfortable pulling my weight in easier content like regular dungeons and raids and such. I know that some of you out there are much better than me, and I acknowledge your skill, so you don't need to flex. :P

I know a lot of players lament the loss of some OGCDs, but for me personally, getting to go up to four stacks of Greased Lightning makes up for it. I just feel so godsdamned FAST that I don't really miss weaving in OGCDs. I know that Riddle of Fire slows things down, but it's only for a while. Most of the time I'm going fastfastfast and seeing so many numbers popping up :P. (And I must admit, I don't mind the riddle of fire slowdown as much as some others, since the bigger numbers during it are nice to see, and it adds a little texture to the pace of gameplay. Most of the time, you're on maximum speed anyway)

I started playing when Stormblood came out; I don't know how the Monk was before then, but the current version is pretty similar to the Stormblood version. And personally, I'm still having a blast playing Monk. The core gameplay of cycling through Dragon Kick, Bootshine, True Strike, Twin Snakes, Snap Punch, and Demolish is still really satisfying for me.

Between using those skills in the right order and from the right positions, as well as weaving in Riddle of Fire, Brotherhood, Elixir Field, True North, etc, when necessary, and playing around boss mechanics, I always feel really engaged.

Maybe Monk has real issues that show up in more difficult content. But for me personally, I feel like Monk is at just the right amount of difficulty. It's easy enough that I feel I don't have to be godlike in skill in order to be useful to the team, but it's still challenging enough that I feel engaged. And it's also hard enough that I still have lots to learn and practice if I want optimal performance and squeeze out even more DPS.

Thematically, HITTING stuff with punches and kicks feels so satisfying in a way that stabbing things with a lance or arrow doesn't do for me. I only wish that Monks had cooler-looking armour. The best looking armours are Eastern-themed, since I guess that's where the Monk theme comes from, but I do wish I had more variety.

Anyway, just a little Monk appreciation thread! I know that most Monk players are unhappy with the class, unfortunately :c. If you still enjoy playing Monk like me, why do you do so?

I do like MNK too but its a love/hate relationship depending what content I do.

When I do dungeons I feel like sh*t because I have to rebuild stacks on every pull and the damage will be lower than a MCH spamming 1 button which is really frustrating.

When I do raids, I can out damage that same MCH but depending on mechanics or downtime it can be a pain in the backside as well.

I don't hate MNK, I just wish that Tornado Kick and Seven-Sided Strike weren't so situational.
My main issue with MNK is that every time that we get a new toy it's not really part of our base rotation but a situational ability.
It sorta feels as if SE gives us these new cool abilities but won't allow us to actually use them.

I really like SAM. You see some negative feedback on the forums, often quite a lot, because people care. For example, there are many aspect of SAM I enjoy very much, then, to me there's no need to change them, so why would I mention them? Then obviously I'm going to post about the parts I dislike, whether others dislike them as well or not is another story, but you get the point.

Don't worry, even though I mentioned people who aren't happy with Monk, this post wasn't meant to be an attack on them for being unhappy with some aspects of it; I understand why they feel the way they do. I just wanted to share my appreciation for the Monk's current state

I first got into this game in Stormblood, and chose monk because that is the class I always learn to in any game that gives me a choice. Played it, and enjoyed it. In comes Shadowbringers... and I still enjoy it, especially with all the new tools we get. I tried other jobs, but I still prefer monk. So I agree with everything in the OP.

Including the armor. Not a fan of the Eden set...

I like Monk. However I hate losing stacks.

DC(well everyone loses their shit if they DC) or experience server lag? Lose stacks.

Tank pulls wall to wall in dungeons? Lose stacks.

    Boss jump phases? Lose stacks.

Everyone else keeps their gauges and resources. But Monks no.

    Sad.

Maybe I'll feel the same way in several years' time; I started with Stormblood's release, so I haven't been playing Monk as long as ARR or HW players.

I do think that one thing that's cool about Monk is that a lot of your DPS feels like it just comes from using your basic abilities really fast, rather than big, impressive finishers (even though I guess there's a couple of those in the Monk's arsenal). It must be a tough balancing act for SE, since there's a certain number of skills each class can have to prevent 'skill bloat'; and I'm guessing that since the Monk already does good and fast damage, SE is hesitant to add powerful finisher-style moves, so they played it safe and added pretty niche utility skills in ShB (arguablly TOO niche :P ).

I hear ya :P. In the Expert Dungeons, I sometimes (this is a little bad, I know :P) Dash ahead of the tank, shoulder tackling a mob and using Six-Sided Star just to maintain my precious 4 stacks Greased Lightning haha. But sadly, not only is that impossible in <lvl80 dungeons, it's not even always possible in lvl 80 dungeons .

Losing Greased Lightning stacks is definitely the least fun part about playing Monk, especially when you were like 1 second away from refreshing it or something.

It's always really fun when you're fighting a boss that doesn't have a jump phase, and you get to keep 4 stacks of Greased Lightning for the duration of the fight, though :3. No other DPS class makes me feel as good
