As much as inclusiveness is nice, ultimately...it's really not worth the effort. Not here.

I wonder what percentage of players play their character as if it were themselves compared to controlling a separate entity that they don't insert themselves into.
I've always thought of my game characters as someone else that has nothing to do with me and I'm just along for the ride.
If they made it a code for every language already it might be sort of possible, "[Pronoun] is a really big lalafell". . but the problem I imagine is that depending on what word you'd need to change more than just the pronoun to make the sentence sound right. Like "They is a really big lalafell" . . lol, you could obviously fix it but I doubt the connecting piece is also stuck in the variable so they'd have to do A L O T of work make it read right (and that's just for one language).
So I think it'd probably be unlikely, not that I'd care if it was an option if they found a way to make it work - would be cool for those who wanted to use it. That and of course it wasn't like "we added pronouns but next expansion there is no MSQ" lol.
I have nothing against the idea of it, but it's almost certainly not possible at a practical level.
Inserting custom text (or even introducing a new multiple-choice option) is a very different business to a simple variable he/she based on the character model's gender. All the text in the game would have to be reprogrammed to read the new pronoun setting instead of the gender setting, and the character data itself would have to carry this new information - which comes down to the same issues as why they haven't added any new features to the character creator all this time. They don't want to mess with the existing programming, or add to the amount of data stored and transmitted about the character to other players.
The Warrior of Light isn't a non-binary character of the modern era. I understand you'd like your WoL to be one, but that's simply not in the lore of this game's world.
View the WoL as a separate character that fits within the established lore, not a projection of yourself in the current age, and your problems are solved.
The character we make in the game is, to some extent, a reflection of us. It's also clear that, even with the limitations we have in the character creator, the people in the world we play in have just as much variety in personalities, appearances, and identities as we do in the real world. Allowing for some variety in pronouns reinforces that.It doesn't matter what you identify as it's about the character in the game and you have limited options in gender, race, skintone ect and making an agender option would really speak to such a small % of the playerbase it's not worth the effort imo. As for the pixies, I think they didn't used gendered pronounce in my language so with the exception of the term King instead of Queen for Titania I didn't notice anything.
The pixies using gender neutral language and being natural and unobtrusive about it is one of the best parts of that, really. The fact that you didn't notice the lack of gender in their speech is a win and it goes to show that this is really possible to do without disrupting anything in game for other players.
Inclusiveness is always worth the effort anywhere people are, whether that's identities, disabilities, playstyles, or personal beliefs.
No, it isn't . They have limited resources and i prefer them spending these on content that the majority or a significant minority can enjoy.
It's not even Sunday yet. . .
April Fools posts are getting earlier every year.
Good luck, my partner started a thread about non binary pronouns a while back and the amount of adhom’s and the constant barrage of insults made them feel suicidal. I hope you have a thick skin as there’s some real petty people on these forums, as you’ll likely see!Hi there!
So I'm nonbinary and it's been a real treat seeing gender neutral pronouns being used for the pixies in Il Mheg and for our adorable branch. For the WoL, though, there's always only he/him or she/her. I was wondering if it might be possible to set different pronouns for written dialogue and system messages, either through the character creation process or something in the options menu? It would be a nice little bit of inclusion to have in the game.
Obviously, voiced lines that use pronouns don't necessarily need to change in the process.
