You don't understand though, speaking FR or German, those people probably won't move, but the Japanese population will move, they are very xenophobic, so anyone who speaks Japanese will lose those friends, being on the west coast in NV, I do typically play with JPs when I'm up, and also the ping isn't as awful, but the east coast well: where the ohio meets the mississippi, that's 84% of the US population and probably where most of the US people who play this game live, if they move to an NA only server, it leaves a lot of the international servers empty. We'll never be a popular game with millions of players, why further stratify our small playerbase? Games with at least 600,000 players f2p or p2p can support servers for specific regions because they have them, this game does not have enough players and never will to separate us like that. Plus who wants to play with all US dicks all the time, even being American, the Americans tend to be the worst, usually those who didn't play FFXI and don't understand having a good gaming reputation (you could other mmos from old school days and understand too like EQ and SWG, not just XI)

I don't see why it's 'modern' to force people in local servers while globalization is what today's business is all about.

Why would you seperate people into geographic locations for an online game where the whole point is that it doesn't matter where you connect from? I'm completely against this as it only limits the customer in the end and offers no real benefits. FFXIV doesn't suffer from connection lag unless your connection is just bad, in which case that will also happen with a local server.
For those advertising for local servers because of communication issues: that happens a lot on the european servers as there's a large community which only speaks their native language.

Take Starcraft for example. I cannot even play with my american friends because I live in Europe and want to play with my local friends too. Talk about flawed systems.

No, I only see local servers as a downgrade from the current system.

How you "force" people to go regional if you have 2 EU servers, 2 USA servers, 3 Japanese Servers and 2 International servers?

if you want international, you have your option. If i want a regional, i have my option.

Seems like you guys want international servers and want to FORCE people who want regionals to fill your server.

Well they better start expanding that house to the U.S./CAN and E.U. regions of the world. Hardware should always be priority.

I'm curious, what has SE said about the latency issue? Or what we believe is latency?

Fair enough .. see Raistlin's post then.

I can't believe people are arguing that regional servers wouldn't be better, are you people crazy ?
Forget about playing with other nations for a moment, we are talking about whats best for the optimal gameplay experience.

And when I say gameplay I don't mean talking to and making friends with others.

Blizzard have 4 servers in America for WoW and they have dedicated servers in France.. what's the difference ?

They also have a Chinese server as well.

Sure EU may get the patch a day later than America but its a small price to pay IMO.

How about you guys way for it to come out, and check out the server state in 2.0? And then you can report all the problems you have, instead of predicting them without any proof.
Yes lets wait til 2.0 when it will be too late to make a difference/change.

We already have a recommended EU server I don't see what difference it would make to moving it to Europe. (they could have it at Edios)

I haven't seen games which offer both methods. Out of the two options the global server has the least restrictions.

Since SE has it's amazingly restricted system where you cannot even change your adress if you decide to move out of your geographic region, I think it's safe to say this extra 'global' server will never happen.

Should it happen though, I would gladly embrace your solution and move to this global server.

Should just leave it as it is. Most folks I play with don't have a "normalized" schedule and we play all odd hours of the day/night. It would suck if they made them regional..then you have certain times when the game is dead and then there is no one to play with.

I am pretty sure they were going to have some region specific servers in 2.0 however they are still going to house all the servers in Japan.
