Yeah they even removed a lot of physics from 1.0 (pre-baked a lot of it back in, but still some is gone) and I imagine it was for this reason - loads of characters on screen? FPS, SAY HELLO TO THE GROUND! XD

Might get away with some "only on self" sort of options, but I feel it'd be pretty awesome riding your horse, clothes, hair, and hair on your mount's mane flowing smoothly in the breeze. 11/10 screenshot lol, and all you need to do is install nitrogen cooling!

Ironically, I'm fairly certain that most of the bells and whistles from XIV 1.0 that were stripped out for ARR weren't all that problematic by the time ARR actually released. 1.0 was way too resource-heavy for September 2010, but by August 2013 (ARR's release date), most computers could run 1.0 without too much trouble. Nowadays it would be a joke, and the PS4 could easily handle all of it as well. I know they lowered the polygon counts and texture resolutions so that they could cut corners on asset development, but whatever physics were used wouldn't pose any performance issues in 2019. Might be that the lowered polygon counts wouldn't have behaved well with more advanced hair physics, for example. Hard to say.
