Might get away with some "only on self" sort of options, but I feel it'd be pretty awesome riding your horse, clothes, hair, and hair on your mount's mane flowing smoothly in the breeze. 11/10 screenshot lol, and all you need to do is install nitrogen cooling!
Ironically, I'm fairly certain that most of the bells and whistles from XIV 1.0 that were stripped out for ARR weren't all that problematic by the time ARR actually released. 1.0 was way too resource-heavy for September 2010, but by August 2013 (ARR's release date), most computers could run 1.0 without too much trouble. Nowadays it would be a joke, and the PS4 could easily handle all of it as well. I know they lowered the polygon counts and texture resolutions so that they could cut corners on asset development, but whatever physics were used wouldn't pose any performance issues in 2019. Might be that the lowered polygon counts wouldn't have behaved well with more advanced hair physics, for example. Hard to say.

To be honest, best bang for development buck would be an optional HD texture pack for PC and ps4 pro. I think that alone would go a long way.

It would also have absolutely no impact on server performance.

    This.
It would be optional for those who could run it and no stress on servers.
All in all the game aged and really needs a graphic improvement.
From Yoshi's words I understand that it will happen eventually, but when and to what extend nobody knows.

I find it kinda pathetic to even think about server stress in 2019.
That being said: gfx mods are pure client side, the server is not involved anyway.

They should rework the physics first. I want to see less hair clipping and proper skirt/dress physics.
That dresses always stand out as if there is some wire propping it up annoys the crap out of me.

I feel like, for the art style and color palette of soft, earthy tones, the way the game looks is adequate. Would I like it if they smoothed out some edges? Sure, but it ain't all that important to me.

I... really feel it for the dev team if and when we do get a graphical update. There is a ton of stuff to go through...

We got a big texture downgrade back in the day to make it all fit in the very limited PS3 memory and for whatever reason they decided not to keep the higher resolution ones as an option for PC players. Probably because PS3 and PC versions had to look more or less the same. At this point I wouldn't even be surprised anymore if higher resolution textures didn't exist anywhere and they'd have to make them all from "scratch". Squenix also has a very strict - maybe even too strict - memory budget on everything most likely stemming from the PS3 days. All things considered I'd be happy with just a gear and character retextures if we were to get any.

Yoshi-P is doing his best and is patching Endwalker. Please wait warmly until it is ready.

Hopefully? I have a RTX 3080 and I only play this game and I'm already maxed out on fps. Since they're dumping resources into ff16 which I'm not very happy about they might as well use ff16 textures in ff14 later on when they're done. They can just use two different texture packs one for ps4 players one for RTX 3080/3090 players so people with consoles won't hold us back.
