Graphics Update In The Future?

I can't help but wonder what kind of potato these people are playing on when they keep asking for this. I guess that console peasants probably make up a good chunk of them, which would explain it. I have an 8700k and 1080Ti and can hold a stable 60FPS at 4k or 144FPS on my 2560x1080 monitor, with all settings maxed. It looks gorgeous on either of them.

VThis game is starting to look rather outdated. I'd be all for an update. After playing other games and coming back to XIV it was kind of surprising to me how outdated it looks..I remember in 2013 thinking wow XIV looks nice!

In 1.x I thought the graphics were phenomenal haha now even that looks old >.>

In regards to the OP. I think once the specs of the new PS5 and possibly the XBox Scarlett are properly known/or the dev kits for them are out, it will allow them to phase out the PS4, which like with the PS3 before it, was the big reason for there being limitations on what they could do, while not having the game perform poorly on it. I originally started playing during early access for Stormblood with a PS4. I then moved up to the PS4-Pro and due to me finding my current FC, wanted to be able to use Discord and play the game easily, which has meant I have moved over to a PC, which I have built (on a pretty tight budget) with Shadowbringers in mind. I have even stuck with using the Dualshock 4 controller (due to lower spinal damager, I am unable to sit at a desk for very long, before I am onset with a lot of pain), which is the first time I have ever gone for a controller over a keyboard and mouse combo. Thanks to the "Cross-Bar" system, I don't think I am missing out with this option.

Looking at the hardware specs of the next generation of consoles, it seems that they are going to be able to really able to match mid tier gaming PC's for the first time. It would make sense that it would be when the next expansion comes out in 2 years, that they could fairly phase out support for the PS4/PS4-Pro. Even in the games current state, I think it is actually a really stunning game and the two times I moved over to Pro and then PC, I have been impressed at just how much better the game looks and most importantly performs. Being able to play with really high graphics settings in 4k-60hzs and not have problems with FPS while doing the new Eden content, has for the first time, make me want to do these "raids".When I am flying with my Griffen, it never fails to stun me how great the wings look of the feathers moving on the trailing edge of the wings.

While being far from perfect, I think the balance or quality vs frame rate has been managed extremely well. When they are eventually able to make improvements to the textures and lighting, I think FF14 will blow any other Fantasy based MMO out out of the water. I already think the game currently has the best soundtrack out of any current MMO on the market today.

I think the only thing this game needs is a texture resolution update on gear textures. They look awful in cutscenes. If you go back to ARR you will see that visuals have in fact improved dramatically.

i just can't understand why they don't implement an internal resolution slider, is the easiest way to upgrade image quality without having to modify the engine

I whole heartedly agree with how nice the game looks and with a touch of tweaking plays. When I went from my PS4 to a PS4-Pro (FF14 killed my poor PS4 as it would run the fans flat out from the second the launcher was opened) , I was taken back at how much of an impact going over to a PS4-Pro had.

While my PS4-Pro did seem to have the odd stutter from time to time with the 8+ player raids if I had all the visual FX's turned on, but other than making small changes, out of the box the PS4-Pro did the game justice. As I said in my previous post, I have gone over to basic gaming PC I put together, which is able to run everything turned up pretty high in a 4K resolution. (I am able to run 1080p at 120hz with my FPS being able to run at the higher rate if I wanted to). The biggest reason I changed over was I wanted to be able to play and use Discord, without having to do some convoluted workaround, just to chat with the people I have been playing with for 18+ months.

Yes I think playing on my PC is visually better, but as you have said, being dismissive and rude towards console players is naive at best and spoilt brat at worst.

Game looks good. But give it about two or 3 more years and it will look really outdated. That IMO is the best time for a graphical overhaul.
