To set the record straight, the #1 group requesting solo content is the Japanese. They like to solo just as much if not more.Grouping should not be an endgame and raid only activity, it should be the primary focus throughout the entire game. They can add solo based stuff because it is obvious people need it especially the NAs where over 90% of the mmo population here is use to solo mmos, but in the end there has to be a advantage to grouping from rank 1 all the way to endgame.
I was wondering the same thing about the companion when I got mine. I think later on when more content is implemented it'd be cool if you could summon your companion on levequests. because by then, im sure ppl will have moved on to more content besides leve quests. and its already annoying to put one star when you cant find anyone to leve with.
I think the reason path companions are called path companions is that they're each exclusive to a storyline.
But what about when the current threat is thwarted and a new one arises? Will you still use the Path Companion? Or will you all just go separate ways? If it was the later, that is when I feel you could use him/her in leve-quests. Because you earned it by completing the mission.
My path companion is a jerk. I don't even want to summon him on story quests.
I have a cat girl and she is a real slut

Why stop at just leves? For being a "companion" they sure don't feel like it. It would be nice if we could summon, level, and equip our companion like our NPCs from XI.
I think this is a good idea. I really liked the npc you could get in 11. Not only is it fun to kill things you couldn't normally kill without it, but its extra content.
It was pretty fun to level your box up in 11. Gives you another sense of progression and face it, we could use more stuff to do in this game. It wouldnt hurt.
