Honestly? They probably can't, at least not all of them. They have bosses, and their bosses have bosses, etc. They tend to make moves that are profitable (or potentially profitable to the point that the risk is worth the reward) more often than not.
We have flying behemoths, whales, robots, gorillas, Spinning death turtles, flying beds, elephants and a flying carriage propped up by talking fish and a Car is where you draw the line huh? Interesting.

I am fine with short events because we already have so much silly stuff in the game that a few more mounts and pets dont make a difference..I am 100% not a fan of all these fanservice raids, especially the new Nier one..that is imo another whole level of immersion breaking..
Imagine if they did a pokemon raid or something like that. I really wish that these big raids would be unique new stuff..the game is already fanservice enough but seemingly even just three expansions in we already need outside content for that..feels like they are out of ideas already.
Crossover events is more like an add to try and bring players to consume other games or a brand.
"Hey check it out a fight with Behemoth in another set up!"
"Whoa, just imagine how Garuda fight is in another battle system!"
It's a fishing tackle. You get a reward and a suggestion of something from tv show, game or food.
The immersion break can be triggered by anything.
Like peeps said, from certain glamours to mounts or events.
Mine was the absence of the new races counter parts. My fault to expect it, but still, the Eorzea that I dive into was equality and justice and that was ripped and made me be less immersive and playing less.
To me, due to the history, lore, magic, and technology presented to us in the realms from the Allagans (Ultima Weapon, Omega, Crystal Tower), Mhach (Void Ark), etc., and whatever advanced societies may have been consumed by light in Norvrandt (Eden). And technically they've done everything within the realm of possibility given the FF universe's brands of magic and technology (because these "fanservice raids" are just a small chunk of all the fanservice presented to us throughout the entire game since 2.0).I am fine with short events because we already have so much silly stuff in the game that a few more mounts and pets dont make a difference..I am 100% not a fan of all these fanservice raids, especially the new Nier one..that is imo another whole level of immersion breaking..

The more permanent additions, like the aforementioned fanservice raids, with ties to past games or other franchises have been more or less changed and/or repurposed to fit into the game's lore so I'm not sure why it's breaking your immersion. We have Crystal Tower from 2.XX, which is from FF3, pulls a lot of lore from 3 and mixes it with Allagan. Eureka is from FF3 as well, and Hydaelyn's version has ties to XI as far as I can tell (i didn't do much Eureka in SB, but Absolute Virtue is in there :P). Ivalice/Dalmasca is direct references made into a nation/region by the name and is resisting the Garleans with an FFXII style (and names/characters being pulled from the Ivalice games), with much of the old lore of the region being heavily inspired/taken from FTT. Eden taken from FF8, but apart from the direct references to 8 the quests have been in line with Norvrandt's history as far as we know (flood of light and what have you).
Nier Automata stuff is admittedly hard to justify though, unless Yoko Taro is seriously making it canon to the Nier/Drakengard lore. But at the same time it can be chucked in with the "we don't know Norvrandt's history/tech" pile since Eden is a thing.
For me they tie in these things well enough that it fits the universe they created, even if there may be some holes here and there.

Each has been reiterative, though, and each reiteration complete and cohesive in itself. They don't just start a new iteration and leave things shallow as to be filled out be entirely different iterations or franchises as XIV does...I welcome our Immersion Breaking Overlords. Why? It's no super deep reason but I feel it embraces that Fantasy in its name. Besides, for those that want to stick to their immersion they can avoid any and all events. Put in some more effort and you can refrain from running into or playing with other players that shatter your immersion.

No fun allowed indeed. It's a video game. Live life and press buttons, it's NOT this serious. If it was then half the jobs we have don't fit either. But noone is saying THAT are they.
I do not think the car is too far fetched. Yes it seems a bit out of place, however.......I am sure Cid would have designed something soon enough. (thats how i tell myself it belongs here)![]()
The car is just another oddball piece of magitek.
Rathalos is just another dragon.
Those chocobo and paisa houses are just tacky.
To be fair... we just fought an alien mech warrior from the far reaches of space. That and we have tvs, and floating screens that look like they were stolen from star trex. I think a car fits in prefectly and is pretty low tech all things around.
