    Need some advice!

Hello, I am currently playing catch up and are playing through the MSQ and are nearing the end of Heavensward 3.0 and heading to the patch quests etc I was just wondering do I stick to just playing the story until I catch up or are there some things I could be doing in between that would possibly benefit me at the end? Up to now I just play the story quests but have thought lately I wonder if I should be doing other things aswell. I'm a level 60 Ninja incase that's relevant and I am all caught up on my job quests too. Any words of advice would be great, thank you :-)

Just stick with the MSQ if you want to progress through to the end - when that gets too much try levelling DoL or DoH, beat tribe etc.

That depends on what you mean by "benefit". If you mean "some gear that will statistically improve my character for end-game play", then no. For gear, item level usually trumps all other considerations - so the gear you get at end game will be significantly better then anything you can get now(though keep upgrading your gear - trying to go all the way to 70/80 with only level 60 gear is insane). If instead of gear benefit means "learning to deal with mechanics i will see in the future", then maybe you should consider branching out some. Attacks that originated from optional trials and raids find their way into mandatory content more then you might think. However, if you learn quick you can probly get away with skipping the optional stuff until later and just pick up the important dodges/techniques via MSQ content. If benefit means "see interesting parts of the story, expand my glamour options, and get some new mounts/etc" then OMG you need to get into some optional content ASAP. That could mean leveling a racing chocobo/getting a good triple triad deck so you can save up for the Fenrir mount, it could mean working on beast tribe faction so you can make a turtle glamour, it could mean playing older raids so you know what really happened during the calamity and more history of the world. While the possibilities arent endless, there sure are a lot of them for this category of benefit.

Although, one thing you should for sure be doing. At a minimum try to get both challenge log entries done for your chocobo each week(this of course is assuming that you unlocked the challenge log, and did the quest to teach your bird to fight - if not then go do both immediately... log is in limsa, the bird quest is in south shroud). Birds take an eternity to get through some of the higher levels, and having a bird that can at least competently heal you when out solo can make a world of difference(or for our healer friends, a bird who can deal damage for you). And youre already doing it, but keep up on your job quests too. Some important higher level abilities are only unlocked once youve done the proper quest.

You should be doing any quest with a + on it to unlock new things. There are a lot of raids, trials, and optional dungeons to unlock along the way for more story and which can be fun to do. Also, almost everything is still doable in duty finder, so no worries about it being old content. The exceptions are: The Binding Coil of Bahamut (The first 8-man raid), the Savage difficulties for the raids in Heavensward and Stormblood, and Extreme difficulty fights (Marked as such or with "The Minstrel's Ballad".) That said, these are all perfectly doable in Party Finder, though you may have difficulty finding folks for the HW and Stormblood savage raids (But there's also less reason to do them aside from seeing new mechanics to fights you've already done)

Now, that said, if you're just interested in getting up to endgame levels ASAP, it's basically just MSQ and job quests to 80. But all the stuff along the way is the same stuff you'll be doing then, so don't feel like you have to rush

Make sure you unlock Khloe's Wondrous Tails in Idyllshire. You do this every two weeks, or until you get nine seals in your journal, and after you do dungeons you click it off , kind of like bingo. But it offers rewards. This is something you should get used to, cause at max level it does offer Tomes of Goetia, as well as pets, materia clusters, and even MGP rewards for the casino.

Personally I'd focus on MSQ and Blue + Quests to unlock stuff. Having a max level job makes life much easier, everything else can still be done at anytime. That's just me tho, whenever I see people who have 5-6 jobs in their 40s and 50s but maxed not a single of them I know that wouldn't be for me, forever stuck in irrelevant content lol.

In the past I have always loved to have many alts..I have had to really fight myself to stick to my Bard.. although I did have a peek at the pet class

Why? It's a huge waste of opportunities to only use one job while going through the story, and it's only a reasonable choice for players who are adamant about never wanting to play any other. The game was built around the idea of being able to use multiple jobs, so the pacing works better if you're doing so.

As a new player I wanted to get to know the game first & have been enjoying the msq a lot. I have saved the gear coffers for when I do have an alt.

Wanted get to max level on my Bard before worrying about alt jobs - I didn't want to feel like I wasn't getting anywhere. Would like to get some gil together also - haven't even started crafting yet.

Playing multiple jobs is nice but a big part of the community moves according to the newest patch so personally I think it's best to first focus on one job and catch up with the trend before moving on to other stuff. More people around, merrier.

Then again it's all choices, so it really depends on your play style and preferences.
