Mog Station "Tales of Adventure" Armor/Dresser/Glamour Issue

    World name: Faerie
Character name: Bren Lou (My Mom's Character)
Class/Level: Level 70 Black Mage & Level 70 Red Mage

I'm sorry my first post here will be a bug report!

My family has played this game for many years but my 72 year old Mom had stopped playing. I spent yesterday getting her account set back up because she wants to play again--so I purchased the expansion for her, resubbed her for 6 months, and helped her buy her Mog Station items she wanted.

She had always played a Black Mage, so we bought the "Tales of Adventure" from the Mog Station to upgrade her Black Mage to level 70.

No problems using it, she was thrilled when it logged her back in.

She had also decided she wanted to play a Red Mage, so we purchased the Red Mage “Tales of Adventure” but when we went to use it got an error that she already had an item that she could only hold one of.

This is the first major issue.

If you’re selling something on the Mog Station for real money it should work, and it was weird that it didn't, since I'd purchased several of the level skips for alt characters.

We discovered, the armor was key, so I moved the armor onto one of her retainers, then the item worked, logged her out and then we logged in and she had both a level 70 Black Mage and Red Mage.

We didn’t actually realize the extent of the issue at this point, it was when I was so excited to show her the dresser because she hadn't been able to use it before and LOVED making outfits, we created the templates and such so her Black Mage & Red Mage could be dressed the way she wanted respectively, because naturally no one wants to have all their jobs/classes/characters look the same.

As it turns out, because the armor issued from the “Tales of Adventure” for the Black Mage and the Red Mage are the EXACT SAME ARMOR you can not apply different glamour templates.

Both of these items issued the exact same set of Scaevan casting armor, which means that because of the way the dresser works, when you apply a template to the character, it matches it with armor pieces. Thanks to this, when you try to make a different one for the other Mage, it resets it to the exact same template because they are wearing the SAME ARMOR.

Because the armor is such that you can only carry ONE of each piece—it means you can not put the other set of armor on the second character to make sure that you can use a different glamour template for that character which basically means that both her Black Mage and Red Mage look IDENTICAL no matter what we do.

So she'd be contented, after all she is 72, not 100% understanding why it isn't working properly, so I created a solution I hoped would help her…I went to the boards and bought her new armor for her Red Mage, which is FAR BELOW the stats of the one she should be wearing from the "Tales of Adventure" set, which is a shame, but this did enable her to assign a different glamour template to each of the jobs/classes.

To be paying real money for something, it seems unacceptable that the gameplay is limited because there wasn't foresight to realize this would happen, at the very least NAME these armor sets differently so that this could be avoided.

All of the other character's we've purchased these for (and we've used quite a few) are all issued a unique set, and it should be the same with the Red Mage--and of course, either way she should have comparable armor to the one her Black Mage has, but obviously, they do not sell this so she’s stuck with inferior armor if she wants to create unique looks fore each of them.

Thank you for your help and insights. I love your company, love the game, and hate to be bringing attention to something sad when I'd rather tell you all the wonderful things you do RIGHT!

If you're already using the glamour dresser, all you need to do is right click on your gear set list and link each set to a different glamour. Change job (in cities), glamour changes.

Not really a bug. That's just how armor and glamours work.

Right, I've used the dresser thoroughly, the issue is it is linking it to the armor not the class/job. Because it's the same armor it is not allowing it to change, if she changes it on one then goes to the other, it overwrites the linked template.

That's how it works with any gear, regardless of whether you paid real money for it or acquired it with in-game currency.

The best option right now if you want to have two separate sets of gear that are close in stats is to "augment" one set of the armour, which will boost its stats slightly - but more importantly for what you're after, the game sees it as a different item to the un-augmented gear, so you'll be able to get your second set out of storage and use one for each glamour.

To augment gear, you will need to buy one "Scaevan twine" for each clothing piece. (Belts/jewellery and weapons have different upgrade items, if you want to do those as well.) Buy those from the counter at Rhalgr's Reach that sells gear and items for poetics, then take it to the counter at the other end of the room, where you can trade the gear+twine for the upgraded version.

(You can use the one belt and probably jewellery for both costumes.)

Thank you both for your input and suggestions!

In all fairness, I know that it does work that way with other armor in-game, the issue is specifically with the "Tales of Adventure" purchase only, as with all the other ones my family have used they've all had armor specifically geared to their class/job and unique to them--so this wouldn't be an issue at all on any other jobs but for some reason the Black & Red Mage's armor are just alike--I think it fair to consider they simply need to copy the template and rename it for the Red Mage to fix this issue.

Then again, perhaps we're the only ones who have done this, hard to say, but the point is, part of the $25 you spend is for the armor which should be accessible without jumping through hoops so that it doesn't impede one of the features of the game from working properly.

That's a clever work around--so if I augment the set for one, the other will be able to be removed from the chest then? I'm not certain if my Mom's account will have the necessary components to upgrade but I will definitely try it...but it's a little bit round about and silly to have to do to be honest.

I mean, the real issue still remains--the Red Mage should have her own armor like the other classes, but I am willing to do whatever it takes to make my Mom happy obviously but also think this should be fixed moving forward only on the premise that this is something that people are spending real money on, and if I hadn't realized what the error was, I wouldn't have even been able to use the "Tales of Adventure" tome at all without having customer support help me because of the error.

Ah, Iscah! Thank you kindly for your help! I logged into her account, did as you suggested and thankfully she had enough poetics to augment it! So, now she has the armor on both characters and can apply individual glamour templates to each one! I am so appreciative of your help! Truly!

I know this is likely a minor issue for other players but my mother loves the glamour system and buys a lot of outfits off the Mog Station and crafts cosmetic pieces so she was very confused and worried when she couldn't use the new armor and the dresser the way she wanted to.

While this solved the issue for her thankfully, the bigger issue about the use of the tome when purchased being barred because of the armor being the same, and the issue with the dresser isn't the lack of understanding how the system works, it's that in order to use the system you can't use the armor that is part of the $25 package you bought "as is" when you open the tome and the normal functionality of the dresser.

Sorry to be a bother, I'm thankful for the assistance and my Mom will be super happy!
