i miss the graphic fidelity of 1.0
Ehhhh. I don't think we really need fully meshed/textured light bulbs inside of fully meshed/textured glass planes inside of fully meshed lanterns. I do miss having nice looking fingers but some of the graphical fidelity was on the 'why' level.
it's 2019, i don't see why not. i can understand because the ps4 and likely ps5 wouldn't be able to hand it either. i shudder to think of actually playing xiv on console
What I miss about 1.0 is the slower pace gameplay, the need to plan ahead before you travel to another city. How world monster were actually a threat even at Lv.50. How gear dammage actually discouraging you from dying.
What I don't miss is the laggy menu. The high level monsters that blocked my path to Mor Dhona. The market place that was a nightmare to find what you need, you litterally wading through hundreds of retainers, and lastly the one thing that made me quit the game....Ifrit AOE lag.
Tried to get back into it after hearing about the Legacy campaign but I had really bad internet back then so I missed out....
Common sense is not so common anymore.
Because they want this game to have low-end specs to allow for a wider swatch of players, and that level of texture fidelity is /way/ too intensive for no pay off. They literally went over this at the last Japanese Fanfest when the asset team got to have a panel and they explained why the original version of the Crystarium that was teased before 1.0 dropped was illogical. (And for exactly the reason I listed. They literally made highly detailed light bulbs /WITH/ animated filaments in them that no one could see - to give you an idea of how extra they were about all the small details.) At some point graphical fidelity for the sake of graphical fidelity is a case of diminishing returns in MMOs.
Edit: Found the fanfest screenshot thread on reddit. Scroll down a ways and it's summarized.

if not that then what about an hd texture pack? or higher quality meshes? textures and meshes that don't look like they were drawn on with crayon?Because they want this game to have low-end specs to allow for a wider swatch of players, and that level of texture fidelity is /way/ too intensive for no pay off. NIGHTMARE!
An opt-in texture pack would be something most people could agree with and indeed most people I've met want one desperately for the ARR zones especially. LoTRO already does that and because it's opt-in, no one has an issue with it.if not that then what about an hd texture pack? or higher quality meshes? textures and meshes that don't look like they were drawn on with crayon?

NIGHTMARE!
It's been asked about repeatedly, and the general answer from Yoshida or whoever has always been that it's more effort than it's worth.
I think you are highly underestimating both the ps4 and the new ps5. Secondly I play on ps4 pro and have zero problems on my 55inch C8 OLED TV.
