    How it used to be...

I’ve recently noticed how cruel some people can be on this game.. when I first started playing everyone was really friendly and willing to help others. Now if you get caught trying to enjoy the game or make mistakes you are cursed out, kicked and shunned. It’s really upsetting. It makes me not want to interact with anyone anymore.

Please leave some feedback on how you feel about this.

*I am only talking about ridiculous situations where people are being outrageous. Not being kicked for ruining a farm party. Still could be handled a nicer way though.

I empathize with you. Someone SUGGESTED to me that ONE reason for the increase in rude people could be because of all the WoW refugees that are coming over to XIV. They told me that WoW's community isn't exactly known for being the nicest.

Edit: So some of you seem to think I'm implying that WoW refugees are the ONLY reason for the increase in bad apples. That was never the case. The keywords in my original post being "suggested" and "one".

I think the most common cause of this behaviour in games is based on its popularity.
The higher number of people, in any scenario, means more bad eggs.
    Can't escape it.
Just have to ignore the bad ones and keep the good ones closer.

And as time changes, and the society gets more and more stressfull and less free time (depending ofc), means more and more people will take it out while playing when things doesn't go as they planned.
More and more feel that they can't spend as much time doing trial and error because it's wasted time for them.

That is atleast how I see things.

It's exactly the reason. Someone who has come home from work and only has a couple hours to get stuff done, the last thing they want to do is wipe 4 times to Haukke HMs final boss because people can't learn to keep it in their pants and actually do mechanics. Bottom line is that wasting time is not fun, and people will inevitably get fed up. How they react to it is on them, I myself have been known to ragechat and make passive aggressive remarks after the however many Thunder God wipes because of another alliance just not getting the memo.

It happens to the best of us sometimes. But I think a bigger problem is how thin skinned most of this community seems to be. They need to stop pretending that everything can be resolved by sunshine and rainbows and just grow a pair, take it on the chin, and move on. You're more than likely never going to run into these people ever again, get over it.

Fair points. But I wish people would stop crying after one and only one wipe in an instance. Human error is a thing.

    It's them WoW refugees!! /s

On a serious note. It's something to be expected to happen when the community grows as Evergrey has stated. It's gonna attract all sorts of people and that might reshape the small community it used to be.

Lots of really toxic ppl on the duty finder recently xD. Lots of ppl are trying to rush thru content and progression that they tend to play longer than usual and are more prone to frustration early xD.

I agree, but it would also be nice if people owned their mistakes instead of being silent about it, which only leads salty people like myself to more likely start pointing fingers. From my experience in various Savage kill/farm groups, the most infuriating thing isn't the mistake and wipe itself, it's the fact that nobody ever just owns their mistakes. The times where someone has simply said "Sorry my bad, I tunneled hard there and forgot the mechanic", we've simply gone OK no problem and moved on.

Lack of accountability in a team focused game, which is what this game is at it's core, is the main reason for the toxicity in my opinion, not people underperforming and making mistakes.

There have been bad apples in this game all along.

In Heavensward I got the pet from the Vault and the other dps said "Of course the [censored] Black Mage got it..."

And in Alexander I once had someone call me bad, rail on me for being bad, called in a guildie into the raid (a randomized group) to also call me bad...

"Hey, Gale, I hear you are really bad at this game!"

    I died.

    "Confirmed!"

This moment is sort of burned into the back of my skull because I took it pretty hard. I'd already been having a bad day for real life reasons.

Which brings me to my point: They've been here all along, maybe you're just noticing them more. Also, in regards to thin skin... I mean, yeah, you shouldn't take things personally but also people need to remember that those other characters on the screen in raids are being controlled by actual human beings somewhere. Being polite is always best.

As a WoW refugee myself I can say that WoW is not as over the top toxic as people make it out to be. In my experience I've run into harsher but less frequent toxicity here (like the above example) while WoW is basically just a stream of trash talking that turns very quickly into white noise.
