One reason that I heard before was "what if a group of level 50s were to fight ARR S rank?". If their HP was buffed to not let them melt by level 80s, then a group of level 50 wouldn't be able to kill them at all. The hunt should be killable by players of the same level.

Maybe the dynamic HP/DEF scaling according to the number of players would work. But the more I think about it, isn't that just a watered down level syncing? And if SE doesn't want to treat hunts as FATEs, I'm not sure they would really bother with doing this. I have a feeling that their stance is, as long as there is a group of S ranks that can't die quickly (i.e. current expansion S ranks), then the other S ranks are just bonus for you to get the 2000 kills quicker.
