I've played Journey and while I absolutely loved it, I don't think any part of it could really be applied to FFXIV in any way. Maybe the unique, gorgeous maps but that's about it really and even that's a stretch.

Edit: Even then, the maps are relatively small in scope and are made for a max of two players. Can't apply the same kind of thing to an MMO.

Played it and loved it much. A great experience indeed.

The 'atmosphere' and sensations of some sceneries could be taken for FF14.

Journey is really an experience like no other.

Towards the end of the game, the beauty and awe of it all actually made some tears stream down my face. And games pretty much NEVER make me cry. (Ok, the ending of my favorite game, FF9, brought me close to tears, but I didn't actually cry!)

People shouldn't be concerned that the game is just 3 hours to complete. It's truly a FLAWLESS experience. Making it longer just for the sake of making it longer would tarnish that. Besides, there's trophies and hidden things, so there is some replayability.

Anyway, there are SOME basic ideas the dev team could learn/be inspired by in Journey:

-think carefully about how your in-game systems can influence multiplayer interaction to promote cooperation and immersion

-understand that it is very, VERY important to employ careful use of beautiful music to enhance the experience of a good game (example; don't make the BGM restart from the very beginning between battles :P)

I'm sure people could think of other lessons this unique, wonderful game teaches.

how so there were more things messed up about ffxiv from the start then just being release to soon. The Fatigue System, cut pasted landscaps(this make it look like your contradicting yourself as Journey is great piece of interactive art), the skill points set up, the bad crafting system and much much more. With that said yoshi-p shares your belief that a game needs to be visably enjoyable as it is to play, this can be seen on planning guids for 2.0.

dont get wrong Tanaka did some great work but ffxiv isnt one of them he had alot pisspoor ideas for ffxiv as for him making ff15 good maybe nothing like a big f@#kup to Motivate you to do it right plus he worked on xiii-2 and i hear it was good.

I'm pretty sure the fatigue system was in place because of no content. Skill point set up was great, I enjoy it more than what we have now. The only thing wrong with it was the battles were a little short. Again, crafting is still half done I believe, they didn't put any time in it. In his original idea they were going to have crafters fight a long side battle classes.

While I agree that Journey is a beautiful and inspirational game, it really got nothing to do with a MMORPG.
Journey is an artsy game, and they for sure have their place on our game-bookshelf, but they don't mix well with other genres.
