In the past - On the fly desicsions what to do with my cards and how to secure a victory. I know high end people only go for balance, but us casuals in the trenches can turn a lot of things around with a versitaile kit.

Today - The new level 80 skill feels good. Shielding and putting a regen on the group while getting 20% healing bonus is nice. I'd rather have my old cards back tho.

Saving rear ends is what makes healing fun to me.
Weaving in DPS as the content/mana allows is also fun.

Pushing through incompetent groups in order to see if I can compensate for their inability to step out of GIANT YELLOW MARKERS can also be fun but I need to be in a masochistic mood for that.

    Former Scholar here.
I was a 2.0 Scholar who carried the flag into Heavensward and half mained in Stormblood and am not maining it any capacity at the moment. I half mained in Stormblood because I felt the need to try something else and I picked up RDM, but when I went back to SCH after the novelty of RDM wore off, I found healing on it to be boring, but I was healing with friends and I still was able to weave my DPS moves, so it wasn't awful.

When I started playing this game, I picked up Scholar initially because it was my main on FFXI and I liked the whole background/aesthetic, although it was completely different in XIV. But the reason I fell in love with FFXIV's iteration is because it felt different to any healer I've played and it had aspects that I liked that were kinda different to what I was used to from other healers in other games. How so?
There was a big emphasis on damage mitigation. Your ability as a Scholar was not judged in how quickly you could get people's health up but in trying to reduce the need for it to drop that low in the first place. If it did, then you would have to work harder to get that health back up because you had a handicap here, however, you had the tools to still pull it off, you prevent people from taking further damage, you use Eos to maximise your healing potential, HoT them up, get out a few Succor and you've done it. Nowadays it's "their health is low, I have an Indominability to solve that".

There was a nice added touch that your DPS moves applied enfeeblements that helped slightly towards aiding your damage mitigation, though they weren't the best. Then came Selene's speed buffs, which gave raid utility, so once the training wheels were off or you now knew what you were doing in a fight you'd use Selene over Eos and this was a mark that you were a capable Scholar, because you didn't need the extra healing you got from Eos because you've found the right balance. Then weaving DoTs between heals felt good, because you could keep your DPS up whilst balancing your mitigation, heals and pet. To add, I am also one of the healers who liked stance dancing with Cleric Stance, because it was something else to manage and make judgment calls on. Coming from an FFXI SCH background, it was cool, because it was a bit like the difference between Dark Arts and Light Arts with jumping between "Heal mode" and "DPS mode".

I always felt for shields or general damage mitigation to work or feel important then there needs to be a handicap on heals that can be mitigated through masterful use of faeries. I managed some pretty good carries that I was proud of because I had to be smart about my heals. This was all endgame content, so SCH never actually felt handicapped in there, despite it not having a good pure heal ability. However, since then any carry or any of my good feats as a healer has been achieved simply through spamming heals.

My desire would be an evolution of my 2.0 experience.

SCH for me is fun when there's frantic healing needed or when I'm going to need to make every cast count. HW SCH fit that feel due to Cleric Stance and having to make a tactical decision on whether or not to enter that DPS phase (which could cause some terrifying scenarios if people took unnecessary damage during that window when you can't turn it off). SB SCH fit during heavy heal time, it was boring when I was just DPSing since I was just putting on my DoTs and spamming Broil II and Energy Drain when I can refresh Aetherflow. ShB SCH is the same as SB SCH, terribly boring when I don't have anything to heal since I'm just spamming the Broil III while refreshing my DoT.
