It is, but on average for an mmo 300 ping is not that bad.
Mind you it's totally unacceptable for anything like a fighting game, fps or even an rts, but for a game like FFXIV it's not that bad. However I just find it hard to believe that is anywhere close to my in-game ping because the delay is most definitely much much larger than 0.3 seconds.

Here's how I see it; if you can play the game without tearing your hair out at how slow it is, it's fine. I wouldn't hate it if they could cut down on some of the checks, but the game is very playable right now. I think Yoshi-P and his team are doing a great job in improving every aspect of XIV, and as long as the improvements keep coming, I can keep playing happily.
One other thing, there's no need to get upset on a forum, especially one such as this. We're all playing the same game, and we all have our ideas and opinions about what could be done to improve it, but don't take the for granted the attention that the developers are paying to our pleas. They can only get so much done within the time they've set for deadlines, and they're working their butts off to address as many of our concerns as a community as they can.
(Also hey all in Trabia! Wave to me some time :3)

Yeah but ping is round trip and he's saying its .3 seconds one way. that would be 600ms response time which is pretty sucky for any internet based app.

sounds to me more like an exploitable glitch than a hack. Can you prove that these people need some kind of tool, program, or editing of memory space to achieve this?
Obviously they still have work to do in this department- but what yoshi is saying is complete fact. The more information they open up to the client, the easier it is to hack and cheat.

I'd be interested to see how large the data transferred between client and server is, and how long it has to travel.
Is that 0.3 seconds the number they're getting from a player in Japan? Then the data transfer is too large between client and server.
Is that 0.3 seconds the number they're getting from a player outside of Japan? Then regional servers will fix that for the people who are interested in them, but is otherwise unavoidable.

0.3 seconds is the average latency for outside-japan. It's not much of an issue by itself. The problem is the time the server takes for a response which is ten times higher. In most other games you don't have to wait for a response and see the result right away. But even then the time the server takes to compute the input is way less in those games...

Wow... NOW I understand why the game feels sluggish.
It's amazing that the few posts I've made else where people blamed my system, yet my system is pretty much untouchable as of now with all of the titles I own for PC. But this game.. my goodness.
The one thing that just irks me is trading with my retainers... do you know how many times I, "thought" I grabbed all the supplies I needed for some craft grinding only to realize after I get to my little spot... that I have to go back and slowly but surely pick out my supplies and confirm they're in my inventory then run back. That drives me nuts!!!
Ah, there's a special place in my heart for internet trolls.
