Help regarding ff14 and internet options

I am moving to a new home that is just outside the city i live in and it is up in the air if i can get Comcast or not. So far if not Comcast, i might be stuck with Satellite internet. (Alyrica)

Does anyone here have experience with raiding and ex primals with satellite internet? I'm fairly active with ex primals and would like to continue as well as get heavier into raids, but this internet situation has me worried.

    Thank you for your time.

My comment may be irrelevant due to how FF14s Network Architecture might be built.... I have a co-worker at my job who tried to play WoW on satellite Internet. His latency was 600ms home and 900ms world. Basically, he couldn't play.

In my guild in WoW, one of our newer tanks was on satellite internet for 4 months (I didn't know she was on satellite internet till she told me way later). Her performance was unacceptable due to her latency and I didn't let her continue tanking harder content till she got better internet.

I hope this doesn't put some rain on your day but thought I'd chime in. Hope it goes way better for you though!

I have used satellite internet in the past. That was my experience as well. Unfortunately, online games are just not playable on satellite internet. Also, the satellite internet providers will throttle your connection if you use too much bandwidth. If you are curious what they would think would be appropriate bandwidth consumption, picture average internet use by your grandfather from at least 10 years back.

Thank you for the replies. Hopefully I can figure something out. It seems like my family is dead set on moving to this place, so I'll have to deal with it. I just hope this doesn't mean I have to quit playing. We will see.

Satellite internet is also very dependent on the weather. If there is a nasty storm in the area, you can be knocked off and not be able to use it until it's gone.

I have comcast and it is NOT cheap. Oh, it's ok in the beginning, but they will jack up your rates when your contact expires. I started out at $60 a month for 300 gig speeds, but after 4 years of having it, my cost is now up to $95 a month.

Yeah it sucks, but they are the only game in my small town for high speed internet and I need it since I work from home.

On the plus side, the game loads REALLY fast when logging on and teleporting. ;p

Haven't tried this personally, but I've played with people who were literally using a cell phone internet connection before, and they could handle most stuff fairly well. It's doable.

You might want to look into mobile broadband in your area if you can't get Comcast. It's not a perfect fix but it's a sight better than gaming on satellite service.

I play on 4G LTE. It's basically like cable only with far inferior bandwidth in my area. I also have satellite but I wouldn't recommend playing on it, just for downloads.

Been like this since I started in 3.2 If you can get mobile with at MINIMUM 5GB then you should be fine as long as you don't use hotspot for anything else. 10GB or more is a safe bet though.

After Hurricane Katrina it was pretty much impossible to get internet in many areas along the Gulf Coast for quite a while. I ended up adding a hotspot service to my cellphone plan (back then you had to actually buy a hotspot because cellphones didn't have them built in). I was able to get speeds of between 2.5 MB/S and 5 MB/S and was more than a decade ago. As stated above, that might be your best bet if you can't get broadband from an ISP.

When my cable service kept going down, I'd USB tether to my phone's 3G service while playing WoW. (It's network traffic is lower than FFXIV), and it was quite playable. I don't recall what the latency was though.
