    Monk no longer fits FFXIV.

After doing the Shadowbringers extreme trials, and now Eden, it feels like Monk in it's current iteration does not fit with the style of fights they are producing.

Many of these fights require lots of movement, often where staying close to the boss is a liability or simply not possible. Now, I very much enjoyed the fights they are fun. However this does not work for a job whose primary resource of damage requires a very close proximity to the boss at minimum every 13-14 seconds (accounting for lag). It makes maintaining that resource incredibly difficult and distracts focus from the evading of mechanics.

Now it is true that Monk recently got several tools to refresh Greased Lightning's timer. However of all their tools to refresh GL, 2 require constant adjacent to the boss, 1 requires to not move and not be knocked back for 1-3 seconds based on server tic, and one requires to take damage.

Monk in it's current design basing a large chunk of their damage on a timer of 16 seconds, does not fit with a large number of fights they have designed. Monk needs a serious rework if it's going to stay competitive, or even garner interest at all if this trend continues.

I love Monk. I've mained Monk since the first days of FFXIV. I've not switched off during the rough periods hoping it would improve. For the first time I am feeling like Monk is nothing more than a liability during these larger fights. It also suffers during dungeons do to constant moving from enemy to enemy. So what purpose do they serve? Where do they shine?

I hope the development team is thinking long and hard on how they wish to design Monk going forward because right now? It's not looking good.

dunno you, but i haven't any issue on the 2 extremes as monk, both on terms of doing dmg, and maintaining gl timer, on titania i use anatman for the phase changes, and on inocence i use anatman and riddle of earth at certain points of the battle
this job generally rewards you if you know the battle well, especially it rewards you well if you try to find any (even if small) spot to keep punching the enemy, when i see a chance to keep doing dmg, i use it

I will have to disagree, you are either bad at MNK or dont know the fights. Now i am not saying that MNK doesnt have a pletora of issues or that its in a good spot, however its far from not fitting FFXIV, in fact its doing resonably well despite having such tremendous odds against it. I do want a full rework, but what you are saying is simply wrong. Honestly the fact that you lose GL at all now days with the absurd ammount of tools that you have to maintain it is baffling, even in dungeons i rarely lose Gl.

To be fair i rarely lose GL on the new DNG the old ones...well that is a different history, and it matters a lot since leveling is extremely painful, i will give you that. Honestly i am more pissed a the lies of Yoshida than anything else, why lie?

I’m not sure Yoshi lies. I think the problem was, this prolly looked better on paper then reality.

And hopefully 5.05 will bring monk changes it needs, in all honesty current monk is not that bad, it performs well and is still enjoyable, I just feel it was a step backwards from SB.

No, when you promise somenthing and dont deliver in said promise, that is called a lie, he said that he was reworking MNK, nothing was reworked, infact it remained the same. A lie.

Of course its not bad, its just dull, it perfomes well, DESPITE his redundant tool kit.

Part of the reason Monk feels so out of place in XIV and among the other dps is that there seems to be a notion amongst the dev team that Greased Lightning for Monk is somehow distinct from Enochian/Blood of the Dragon/Huton on Black Mage/Dragoon/Ninja, but that's really not the case. At their core they're all just the buff the job needs to keep up in order to deal acceptable amounts of damage, but for some reason while Enochian/Blood of the Dragon/Huton all have received a single amazing broadly useable quality of life skill to upkeep that buff, Monk instead has gotten a dozen bad upkeep skills with niche and occasionally contradictory or competing use cases. In order to evolve in a way that the job will be satisfying for players, Monk really just needs to get away from that so it can actually grow and perform something other than the ARR rotation.
