I feel the same way. Ran all the MSQ dungeons with Trusts the first time for the reasons you stated-- enjoying the lore, character reactions, environment, etc.

Also, since Stormblood, I had given up healing, even though I really enjoyed it, due to having to research each run beforehand. It made the game more like a job to me, so I took up dps.
Now I'm leveling my healer in the trust system to practice and really commit the mechanics to memory before entering duty finder. I find that it's helping me become more confident in my abilities to use everything in my toolkit when healing to maximize dps. And it's fun again.
