This thread is boring, so I skipped it all.

The story has some bad parts and more then a few parts that were put in purely to waste time. But any good story is going to have lulls in the story. Each zone is a theme park where you start off in a ground state and it eventually peaks to a big finish. Story moves forward and you repeat. A good story disguises the busy work with character development or lore. Se does not do this very well. It is painful in some areas. The trolley being very obvious one. They took a very Rube Goldberg machine approach to the story instead of say just cut through the door. Lets not all forget the fluff cutscenes in the Praetorium. In terms of the broad story they did a very good job this expansion.
Please don't kill me for this but I gotta agree with OP on the Greatwood part, but not because of how the story was told or anything but because I JUST DON'T CARE about these people at all.
I don't care about their culture, their feud with Children of the dark, their tradition, and everything. I was just too captivated by the desire to see how Emet and the main plot are going to unfold that I feel like all these quests to get me to know their culture or their tradition just feel annoying to me. I also really don't care about the Vierra tribe as well, I find them to be a complete bore to interact with.
That and the story before a showdown between Thancred and Ranjit in Amh Araeng. The quests to help those unfunny miners and a widower? For the love of god make it end, please!
Overall, I'm having a blast throughout the expansion, it just theses two things that I feel like it's a complete filler and a chore for me to get through.
Again, the gate opens from simply having activated a switch, though. They never explain what about the Talos makes it uniquely recognized by the switch or why its magical signature is unable to be copied so you could, you know, just open the gate yourself. And yeah, the Talos was a bit odd, but really it's probably one of the easier methods of getting down there. Did you skip through the entire quest involving you figuring which way was the best? There's a huge reinforced magical gate in the way, and you're on a time limit.
but nah yeah skip it lol reading is for nerds
Don't get me wrong -- I loved the Shadowbringers story and didn't skip a single text or CS, but it's not like every question is satisfactorily explained by reading/watching.
At what point did I ever imply weight was the issue? I specifically referred to whatever magic was necessary for the switch to recognize the Talos. The Talos and the switch glow when he gets close. It has nothing to do with weight on a switch, it's proximity-based.
Could they have made up some excuse for copying the signature and faking it? Sure, maybe. They also could have just written the gate open and let us go right there. Heck, why not bring Minfilia right to us in the Crystarium if we're gonna just not have any obstacles to overcome?
Edit: I should add, I do have problems with the ShB story. The Talos here just isn't one of them.

If someone wins an argument, they have learned nothing.
FOR DOCKHAND!

Eh, 4 posts and one of the first is a long rant about how terrible the story is.
Almost feels like a troll trying to rile people up purposefully.
But if you don't like it and felt like there was nothing substantial because you skipped half of it, that's fine. There are PLENTY of people who loved the story and thought it was the best of the expacs. Most MMOs can't write a proper story to save their lives, so I'm loving what this game brings.
ikr? people just skip to the last page then proceed to ask "wait whats going on in this thread anyway?"
for OP: you dont like it? stop, simple as that. i dont like wow so i stop, i like FF14 so i keep going, simple.
what make you think creating "i dont like FF14 story, its boring" thread in FF14 FORUM of all place will get you agreement? you want positive support? everyone agree with you? post it in BDO forum or something, you will get tons of like.

WHERE IS THIS KETTLE EVERYONE KEEPS INTRODUCING ME TO?

The only time I found ShB boring was the Pixies' quests, it reminded me of the mugs we learn to hate during the quest series in the Churnings Mists (I hate you Mog x_x).
For all the rest, I found it fantastic, the musical atmosphere and the story that I read everything even the small quests shows us the mood and the state of mind of the people who live in this convicted world.
I took all my time, a real pleasure and the end is so epic !
