    Shadows

So I've started to pay more attention to shadows in this game recently.

I would first like to start by saying that all of my shadow settings are maxed, and bar a few I've changed for personal preference, all my of other settings don't seem to matter as well. I've gone from changing settings, to maxing out settings, to changing settings in the nvidia control panel.

Here is the shadow of a statue (while I am in the air) with "Use low detail on distant objects" off

Here is the same shadow of the same statue (while I am in the air) with the "Use low detail on distant objects" on

The thing I have a problem with is that if I land beside the statue, with the low detail setting off, the shadow seems to slowly contort and move until it eventually, a few seconds later, makes a higher quality shadow. It almost gives it a flickering effect while contorting to change to a higher quality.

(The shadows full quality after I land)

It seems like after I land from flying, no matter how close I was originally, the shadow tries to morph into the the "LOD on" model from the "LOD off" model.

I've also noticed shadows in other areas have very little detail.

Here is also a video that simulates the problem I have.

It's something I've been trying to fix, and can't seem to really find a solution for.

Good morning and thank you for posting on the Final Fantasy XIV Technical Support Forums.

How long have you been experiencing this issue? Does this graphics issue happen when the game is on dx9 or dx11? Would switching to a different mode affect how it is displayed. Also, how old is your graphics card? Could you try updating the graphics drivers?

Thank you for visiting the Final Fantasy XIV Technical Support Forums.

I'm actually not sure how long I've been experiencing this issue.
I only run the game in dx11. I have not tried running the game in dx9.
My graphics card isn't old at all. It's a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080. The drivers are up to date.

Hash_Browns, thank you for the reply.

Could you try running the game on DirectX 9 to see if the problem still happens?

I actually seem to get an error whenever I run the game in Dx9

Can you submit a Final Fantasy XIV system report? Simply go to the 'Config' option on the Final Fantasy XIV launcher and to the right of 'System Information' click on 'Display.'

We hope we can be of assistance in helping you enjoy the exciting world of Final Fantasy XIV!
