    Error 90002 - Instances Only

    Hello!

I've been trying to get back into the game after largely skipping Stormblood (only showing up for seasonal events and such). Since coming back though I've been having serious issues with Error 90002's happening in instances. This wasn't happening previously, even in seasonal events like the recent Valentione's Day requiring an instance.

I am 99% certain it only happens in instances. It even happens in solo instances, like Air Force One in the Golden Saucer, where there are no other players involved. As such I believe it must be something unique to instanced content as I can spend hours running leves, beast tribe quests, and gathering/crafting without issue or a single disconnect. Meanwhile I average at least one disconnect in a dungeon instance, and sometimes 2-3. The timing and quantity seems random (I have run entire dungeons without a disconnect, and have had boss fights where I get disconnected multiple times in one fight).

The disconnects are instantaneous. There is no visible rubber banding due to a loss of data packets. Everything will be running fine and then *snap* the game screen goes blank with a 90002 error, then back at the title screen and (probably) a login queue.

I am running a Windows 7 64-bit machine with an Intel processor. Using integrated WIFI on an ASUS Z170-Premium motherboard. Router is a Linksys WRT3200ACM.

    Solutions I have tried:

-Port Forwarding - All ports listed on Shadowbringers' system requirements list.
-Modifying Internet Options in Internet Explorer - Following guide in this thread.
-ip /release /renew and dns flush - Also suggested in the above thread.
    -Uninstall and reinstall FFXIV
-checked to make sure FFXIV boot and launcher is allowed through Firewall

At this point I'm pretty much at a loss. This is the first time I've had serious connection issues with this game, and none of my hardware is particularly new.

    Hope that you can help!!

    Hi DajiSabiiki,

I have the same issue as well. Most of my 90ks are a result of entering or exiting an instance. I have even had them prior to starting a boss fight, especially the final boss fight of a dungeon (which can be irritating as an Astrologian sitting on three different seals). You're definitely not alone in this phenomenon.

    Hi Alchemicsword!

I haven't had a disconnect upon exiting an instance yet... and if I successfully run an instance without losing connection (rare though that may be) and keep playing, my connection seems to be stable. It would be pretty funny if it wasn't so annoying!!

I also often play healer, even Astrologian, so I feel your pain. The only saving grace for me is that people are hesitant to kick a healer from the party ... even if they act like a digital narcoleptic.

Hope you have luck with fixing your connection, too!!

Bumping this, but also providing a bit more troubleshooting information!!

After getting 90002 twice during a single The Steps of Faith trial, I decided to try a solo instance to see how that would work. I made it through Satasha solo without a single 90002 so I thought I might have been onto something, but then I ran Haukke Manor solo and during combat with the skeletons in the basement *SNAP* 90002 again. After that I finished the instance without another error, and ran Ifrit solo. No 90002 on Ifrit. After that I decided to try solo Haukke Manor again but this time just sat still to see if a disconnect would happen. I waited for about forty minutes without a 90002 . . . and then was kicked from the instance due to inactivity. No 90002 though - I was just returned to Ul'dah.

Based on my tests it is still 100% an issue that happens inside of instances. It doesn't seem to be strictly caused by instances with other players, but I do believe that having other players makes it more likely. While more testing is needed, it looks like 90002 won't happen unless I am active. Combat, in particular, seems to be the most reliable trigger. It must be stressed though that this is only true inside of instances - I can run however many leves, FATES or whatever outside of an instance I want without an issue.

I hope this information is useful! Thanks!!

    Another bump!

Was hoping against hope that the patch would somehow fix the 90002 issue but ... nope! Experienced a 90002 in the Golden Saucer's Leap of Faith instance right when I got to the end and jumped to the statue's cupped hands. Well, at least it wasn't during a boss fight...

... which did happen today too. Got Haukke Manor from the duty roulette. Crashed twice - once in the basement, between battles while I was trying to give the tank a Galvanize buff, and once during the final boss battle after I snuffed a void lamp.

I thought I should point out that the disconnects are so sudden that I have to wait 15 seconds or so for the game to log out my character before it will let me log in. Luckily today I managed to log back in with just enough time to save the party from a wipe, but barely.

I hope this information helps troubleshooting the issue. Thanks!!

I'm also getting 90k in instances usually after zoning over into one which I get nasty lag then disconnected then doesn't let me log back in right away but the weird thing it doesn't happen every time but enough that it's annoying and ruining my mood to play the game.

    Hi HeavensHell!

Yeah there seems to be quite a few people who have that particular problem - where they get disconnects when going to or from instances. I'm not sure how Square's server infrastructure works, but I imagine there are 'world' servers and 'instance' servers and it sounds like when you are being switched from one to the other the connection is being dropped. Then you get lag while your client times out and then finally kicks you.

What's weird in my case is that switching in and out of instances is no problem. It just decides to randomly and instantly kick me in the middle of instanced content. And it's something specific to instances since I can party and run leves/FATEs all day long without losing connection once.

Today was a good day though. I managed to run an entire dungeon, The Steps of Faith (on roulette), a guildhest and two gold saucer instances without being kicked once. Not sure if I did something different . . . but I've got a few things I am going to try on my end to see if it somehow made things better. Hope you have some luck too!! I'm assuming you've tried port forwarding and making sure that FFXIV is white listed with your firewall? Those sound like the most likely culprits for your situation. Either way best of luck!!
