So can we all appreciate these little funny moments in Shadowbringer that makes fun of the simple things our character take for granted or do constantly?


For example....

Making fun about how our character never takes a bath.

How every single food and clothing in our inventory are all old and smelly by now but we still keep it in our inventory.

One of the Gunbreaker Job NPC will comment about how not making her current job gathering Tomestones into a "daily grind"

They need to do this more often but I guess we may get more of this later once we get Hildibrand Season 5.

In short, addresses the constant use of nodding as our defining reaction to... Almost everyone.

Fourth Wall breaking has been a part of the game even before Shadowbringers though, so that is just well in keeping with tradition (helped by Ferne liking these kinds of meta or self-referential jokes).

Before SHB there was the old Wind Up Cursor minion which is based on the traditional 'hand' cursor from past FF games, which the flavour text in the Minon Guide refers to the ramblings of a drunken goblin theologian, who believes that the minion depicts "the hand of the gods" that "controls all of us from beyond the veil."

Not to mention the whole Eighteenth Floor area utterly smashed the Fourth Wall to pieces during the Rising back in 2015, which of course famously had the development team outright addressing you the player personally, including Yoshi himself.

And lets not forget poor Edda and her original party way back at Sastasha - her whole sad story was originally meant as a sly dig by SE at player parties becoming too pretentious and arrogant, and taking what is meant to be a game way too seriously when things go awry (take note of how her other surviving party members treated her in the cutscene after Tam Tara Deepcroft, they're like players rage quitting a party after a wipe.)

Really the Fourth Wall often takes a beating in FF games, and FFXIV is no different.

Which in Eorzea time is at least once a week. I'm practically spotless.
