    Crafting and the Colorblind

A Linkshell mate made a remark about how hard crafting was, after abit of a discussion he mensioned that he was colorblind.

Now I realize that on average, you can just spam Standard Synthesis and still make most things, but for those of us that actually like to utilize the system, it would be nice to see a colorblind mode for crafters (or anything in the future that utilizes colors as a status indicator).

I don't think this would be too hard to do, just alter the orb colors to ones that colorblind people can tell the difference between.

The trouble is that different people have difficulty with different colours. I my self am colourimpaired with "Anomalous trichromacy" with greens/yellows reds/browns and a whole ton of other colors get distorted in certain lights or conditions. i sometimes find i cannot distinguish pale colors and whites. i often said to friends t hat i'd never seen a red orb once but apparantly its such a pale shade of red its hard for me to see.

i do agree that games in general should have customization options for colorblind players. number of games i have difficulty with stuff at range cos i cant see where the red dot of my laser sight is or what ever. which is one reason i tend to like sniper rifles even as a close combat weapon but a simple option to make my laser sight blue or green or any color i want would help a lot.

in more generic terms of final fantasy in xi i had trouble with some of the enms because the're be an orb and the color of that that orb was its elelmental weakness or something similar. and for me that was a nightmare as ice, water and thunder all looked the same so did wind and earth. so hopefully i never encounter this kind of thing in xiv. or if i do it has some kinda of option that helps people with difficulty and colours. perhaps a simple option to add a w y r tag to the orb when crafting to distinguish its color or something.

As a colorblind person, I really feel that what would help tremendously is if they put an orb indicator on a black background and named them. Just like they do when you harvest on a DoL.

They already have named some of the states like chaotic or unstable so just name them all. That way people who can't see color don't need to rely on what the orb looks like to make a good decision about what they should do next, they can just refer to the box or perhaps even the chat log.

I think what Wynn said would be great It would help newer people as well who can't tell the states apart through a naming system. Having a little black box in the corner with the color of the orb an name makes perfect sense ^^

Or maybe they could hire people to tell the blind, blind people to tell them what's going on in the game as their playing?
Not to sound like a jerk, but this really is a hardware issue. The more likely solution to the problem is to adjust monitor color settings to colors you can set apart.

lol so totally change the color settings of my entire display to make the 2-3% of colors i have difficulty with slightly easier to distinguish while making the 97-98% of colors i can see perfectly well completely screwed..... Genius!

so i'm kinda guessing you don't actually know much about it so here's some nice information on it for you which will kind of tell you it's not a hardware fault.

I think a small text description of the color would help. It could be a log filter that could be toggled on and off, and would give the same information in a different way.
Edit: such as the enmity indicator as well. If the colorblind text filter is off, this text does not enter the feed.

The noises are not sufficient without a point of reference. Someone would have to stand by and watch the crafter, giving him updates on what color is shown, giving the colorblind individual a point of reference.

If a blind individual recovered enough sight to see color, he cannot be expected to point out red from yellow without an indicator.

Hardware adjustments may impact other aspects, not as simple as it sounds.
