Healers, It's ok we really do love you!

I have been noticing in dungeon runs that when I say something to a healer like. " Nice Job!" "Great Heals!" or even "Nice rescue!" I get replies like "?" or "Are you serious?" or in one case they just dropped. I mean this kind of thing happens a lot.

Last night my partner on a RDM told the healer "Don't worry I got your back!" after helping with heals. The poor healer took offense!

I feel bad, lately it seems you guys must be taking a beating in groups. That's sad.

The point of this post is to let all you full time heals know some of us love you guys and notice the hard work you do, so relax and take my complements!

If it was a messy run or pull those comments will sound like sarcasm.

I had a similar reply in Shisui Dungeon, jumped into the box and the dps was a bit early and still got caught. Used rescue to pull them out from across the room and will admit I got a laugh from it. However context can make it seem like you are making fun of them or in the case of a RDM assisting with healing, insulting them that they can't do the job they are set to do.

    It's a mixed bag.

I generally don't ask much of my groups when I heal. I found it's best to just keep my mouth shut and do what I can to keep an overzealous tank alive. I've found that if I say something about perhaps a tank who is overzealous, bad with rotations, or just undergeared - I get a "Deal with it" attitude back more often then not. So I just see if I can keep up. If I can't, I leave rather than waste time and bandwidth on it. I have plenty of other games I can play for 30 minutes if it comes to that.

Only time I speak up anymore is if the Tank asks if he should pull bigger. I appreciate they ask first, and will always tell them to do what's comfortable for them. It's been my experience that people who ask first usually know what they're doing and are smart enough to adjust if they find they can't handle it. I'll also say the same thing if the DPS begs the tank to pull bigger - at which point I'll say "Pull what you're comfortable with, I'm your healer not them - and I got your back either way"

I can see how this can be dreadful for a healer, as they can perceive it as if they weren't good enough at their job. Having the RDM/SMN helping with rezzes is one thing, but healing? That kinda stings.

Ultimately, healers aren't doing anything extraordinary, just doing their jobs. This is why you'll rarely see people praising them unless they do something uncanny and save a run completely, which can be applied for other roles as well.

I always do that, too. And just yesterday, I had a new Hrothgar White Mage in that last Heavensward Level 60 dungeon - this Wall thingy - which, of course, took lots of damage from the mechanic first time (funny I recorded this, but for other purposes^^). I think I healed him (or myself, or even the other Red Mage) in several occassions and he was apparently fine with it while the other RDM did not care even if he was down to like 5% health - one more attack and the wipe was set in stone.

Sometimes we both healed - he himself and I with my "Erzvitas" (Vercures). He was some light-hearted and talkative guy and probably just interested in a good run, not in some sort of e-pen measuring.

WHM self heals and I assist

Funny thing I was saying exactly the same thing in a positive way ("I assisted you with some Vercures") but he was very happy and "Byeeeed" me (the others left immediately).

Got a "Best Player" vote, too, probably from him. So yeah: Not everyone takes it as offense despite it was a close call often, but this handsome fella was particular great to play with.

I think every healer with a bit of a brain notices when things get chaotic and is glad for any assistance.

As long as it's not accompanied by a snarky comment, I think they [Red Mages] do it out of politeness/friendlyness. If they would want to harm and mock my healing skills when I mess up as Schlar, they would let themselves flat out die, because this is the ultimate "diss" in that matter.

[I let the names in the pictures as it was great and succesfull fun run!]

in most cases when people start to congratulate others after the boss dies, I laugh by myself and wonder how clueless these people can be because they played horribly and people who actually saved the run were not mentioned.

Well, it would be nice to just say "good job everyone" instead of trying to be sarcastic and mock a healer for healing with them, being a RDM or SMN and cast heals is just like "hey look we do the same thing you do.. we heal! good job Healer!" No that is a provoking attitude, so don't expect the healers to thank you in return, as a main tank I see it happens most of the time, even when the healers fail to adjust or struggle at times to keep me healed I try to not give a provoking comment, instead I praise everyone for the good effort, regardless if I even out dps the 2 dps in my group for example.
