[SPOILERS] The Convocation of Fourteen

So people have been discussing how one of the members of the Convocation of Fourteen left the group over the Zodiark plan. I'm just wondering if there were more details about that member than I remember, since people are speculating that they went on to help summon Hydaelyn or even their soul went onto become us.

I kinda rushed through the endgame a little since I was so hyped to reach the end, and I'm just wondering if I missed a detail or not. The only thing I remember exactly is that Hythlodaeus mentions the Convocation went to Thirteen from Fourteen. Am I missing something, or are people just inferring from that?

(Not that I'm disagreeing with the theories, just wondering if I missed optional text or something.)

Only one member left, the other 13 are who become the Ascians, with 10 of them being sundered and only 3 of them remained unsundered. It is not said what happened to the 14th or even why they left the Convocation other than they left before the cataclysm struck Amaurot and before Zodiark was summoned.

On the first pass, I thought it was referring to one being added, as well. But the implication is really that one was lost; they bailed on the Convocation during the Final Days for some reason, leaving their number at thirteen. This is explored around the same time as that we and Ardbert are shards of the same sundered soul, which makes one wonder if perhaps we are the fourteenth. (Maybe we made twelve new friends, lol.)

We have basically no information on this mysterious person who left the Convocation. People out here are speculating and the like since conservation of detail would imply that whoever they are, they must be important.

Additionally, it may not have been a widely known piece of information even at the time of their end of days - the one who mentions it (I believe it was the Optimistic Amaurotine that you talk to as part of the MSQ) says that "the rumor" of a spot being newly open in the Convocation is a troubling one, given how synonymous those who held the those roles had become with their titles and positions within their society.

I did mean it in the same way as being left vacant, but to rephrase for clarity - a newly open spot that they do not plan on filling.

Either way, my point was that it did not seem to be a widely known development, with the Optimistic Amaurotine's full line being regarding that development being:

Thus it is with great incredulity that I greet this recent rumor that a seat in the Convocation is soon to be left vacant. If proven true, 'twould be an unprecedented development - and testament to the immense pressure under which our saviors are toiling...In any event, I for one am confident they shall deliver our star unto salvation.

The optimistic fellow, being optimistic, takes it in stride...but the line also indicates how it would have been an unproven rumor even for those that had heard it, and thus the development was likely not widely known.

The fact that that shade recognized our soul and saw Aldbert leads me to believe we are the remnant of the 14th. Plus there's the figure Emet saw us become when we were fighting him adds weight to that conclusion.

I think there are a few details that imply that Hythlodaeus was the fourteenth. He was once a close friend of Emet-selch, and he mentions that an errant thought of Emet's may be the reason for his awareness. So it seems Hythlodaeus is the only likely candidate we've seen for the fourteenth member, due to his past association with the prominent convocation member, Emet-selch.

As a side-note, I personally think there's a possible connection in the names of the opposing will to Zodiark and the Amaurotine, being Hydaelyn looks like a truncated diminution of Hythlodaeus.

Edit: also Hythlodaeus knows for sure there are only thirteen, whereas another amaurotine mentions a "rumored" vacant seat. It stands to reason, that the members including he who left would be the few who knew there were only thirteen.

But he also refers to us as his "new old friend" which would be a strange way to refer to himself. And he does explicitly say that you are the kind of fate he would have expected for one such as she(he). Again, a strange way to refer to yourself, even your former self.
