Dark Knight level 80 Job quest - "Our Closure". Closure from what? (Spoilers, kinda)

Can someone explain to me exactly what this quest meant for the overarching DRK storyline?
Both the quest name "Our Closure" and a dialogue option towards the end implies closure...but what from? What does the flower represent?
The Dialogue with our darkness seems extremely cryptic and didn't seem to mean much.

In the quest, we get a letter from an NPC we met during the 30-50 DRK questline, the one that Fray insulted, and find out that he's turned his life around and is a better person, and wanted to thank us. (On that note, why do we have to call our Darkness out with the words "Fray" in say chat, even though we know it hasnt been Fray since lvl 50?) We then take a flower her gives us, and seemingly give it to our inner darkness....for...some reason? Then they babble about how he/she was never needed...which again, doesnt make sense, its not a case of need, we learned as much at level 50. Am i reading this right?

I can't say the meaning behind the quest made much sense to me, and i suppose i was wondering if it did to anyone else, and if someone could make better sense of it. Is this just a lore inconsistency and/or bad writing? Or was there some kind of deeper meaning to it?
