What healer should I start with

I’m new to the game and I really like the idea of healing and have healed in other mmos. I just don’t know what one to pick in final Fantasy. I have leveled as summoner to 50 to get an idea of the game. I also unlocked Astro to try it and honestly it looks like it has the most going for it but with all I’m reading about the nerfs idk if I should waste my time. I guess I’m at a point I wanna switch into healing I just don’t know what one to pick.

So my experience are purely based on SB end game. I found WHM the most forgiving and most powerful intern of raw healing. So if you are new to healing, WHM might be something you could start and build your confident on

All of the healers are capable in any content. There have been changes to buffs that they had in earlier expansions so the raw potency is less, along with everyone feeling weaker at the start of an expansion due to less gear.

WHM is the most straightforward with raw healing and regens. AST has a lot of toys. I can't really speak for SCH. It's still strong with mitigation and pets, but a lot of the abilities and damage players had to keep track of has been trimmed down.

I would also recommend starting with White Mage. You have higher raw healing and damage outputs to help out as a beginner. Just remember to make use of the off globals that are free of mana cost to keep your mana up. Assize is your friend for countering unavoidable AoEs.

Since you leveled Summoner, Scholar should be levelled up the same being linked to Arcanist as well. When the group is going well with low damage taken, you can have your fairy "slave" do the healing while you DPS. The burst healing does require the use of the Aether resource, so it may be a bit more difficult than White Mage due to that.

Astrologian might be the more difficult pick to master. The healer spells are indeed more simple than White Mage, but proper card use takes some memorization of which one goes where and what seals they give.

I started this game back in Feb of this year. My first healer was WHM and I really liked it. Easy to heal, powerful, basic healer. I’ve played around with AST and SCH and both feel like WHM plus something extra. AST is probably the busiest of the 3 with the cards. The benefit of SCH is you start as an Arcanist, and so does Summoner. U can use SMN for the MSQ and SCH for the dungeons and the insta-cue.

WHM is definitely the most straightforward one, so that is the easiest choice. However, if you enjoy another healer class more, there is no reason not to pick any of them. Any healer is capable of clearing any current content (and very likely the near-future Savage tier too), so don't worry about that.


Since you have already tried Astro and have Summoner at 50, you probably already know this, but FFXIV differentiates from other MMOs in healers being able to spend a lot, even most of their battle time DPSing, so don't be afraid to practice that too while you're learning your healer job.
