Not sure where to post this but: We seriously need real moderation in novice chat

You got people "especially in early mornings" that want to act like mentors are mods, when these "mentors" kick people for no real reason whatsoever i.e. "stupid questions" "trolling" and then they get on their high horse power trip when they do next to the exact same thing as they say shouldn't happen such as using the chat as a general chat.

Returners and green-leaves have it lucky since they're only removed for a short while, but mentors who actually use the chat for good purposes and kick the actual trolls or disruptive people can just kick right back or have their buddies do it for them.

The Novice chat is honestly a lost cause. I have been a mentor since its inception and almost immediately left the chat due to the exact reason you are stating. I leave my Mentor flag up at all times and help those who ask questions or seek me out, but I have long since abandoned that novice chat.

So sad. It can (sometimes) be useful while other times some mentors think it's their personal link shell chat

Thanks for helping make the FFXIV community a fun and welcoming place. If you're not sure you have (and you very likely have), make it a point to be patient or helpful the next time you log in so that you can know you've made a difference.

If you're on the Aether data center, congratulations! I might be your next exciting adventure healer in the Duty Finder. Please look forward to it.

I love the idea of Novice Chat. I try to stay in it as much as possible to answer any potential questions asked, and I have helped more then a few people using it. However, I agree it needs some back up from Square. There's way too many people that use it as their own personal chat channel. I understand wanting it to appear "lively" so people in it remember it exists. But, too often I have seen it devolve into so much childish bickering or sexual innuendo back and forth. Take it to tells! But, then you wouldn't have your big audience to shock right? If anyone dares step up to confront or kick the offending parties, they get hassled or kicked themselves even if the behavior was clearly violating the terms of service agreement of the game itself. I've tried sending a support ticket in for harassment when I saw another mentor get kicked unjustly for such a thing and just got the usual canned-spam response back. Nothing ever happened to the person abusing their powers or causing the disruptions other than a brief "time out". They were still in the game and in the chat channel. And so it continues to happen. Not all the times of course! There's still value in the channel i believe, just think it could be improved.

I cringe sometimes reading some of the things being said in the chat and often have left the channel temporarily for these very reasons. I hate to think this is what first time players are seeing as an example of the player base of the game as a whole. Many new sprouts first questions in the channel often end up being "How the heck do I leave this chat?". That's not the way it should be. Every kick from the channel asks you for a reason, every reason should be double checked via chat logs by Square. (Even if it takes weeks) And, real action should be taken against the players by game staff if the kick was warranted or if it was not. Even if it is just to block/remove someone's mentor status in game so they can't continue to do this. Not gonna say say ban them all from the game or anything. I know in the end Square still wants to make money primarily. Though, how many subs are you losing from sprouts that are turned away by this introduction to what should be best the server has to offer.
