    I haven't verified those two cases, but it is easy to do.

    I do not believe either case would change the outcome as that kind of withdraw is related to the pet just being out of reach/unable to go to their master.

    Edit: Common thread seems to be it only happens during combat. A friend not even an hour ago mentioned that it happened during Orbonne Monastery during the Agrias encounter after having been selected to teleport to the ghost add area.
