A friendly PSA: Always check the vendor selling price before listing your own on MB

I can't tell you how much money I have ended up making because people aren't watching how much they sell items for on the MB, and that's not counting people who drop zeros or neglect to manually put in prices for their wares.

For instance, Clear Demimateria III sells for 5k through the vendor. I've seen people put it up for 3500 or so, meaning they miss out on 1500 gil plus the market fees. Another recent instance are many of those walls to glam up our houses; one that vendors for 3475 gil might go for 2800.

Just... You might as well go to the vendor and sell this stuff, all of ten to twenty feet from the retainer bell. Walk those few extra feet and you make more money. So please, check your prices. xD

They don't read the fine print. When you're about to put it up for sale through mb, it actually lists the vendor price on the item tooltip. I feel like people don't pay attention and lose out. But hey, what can ya do /shrug

Considering the shear number of people I see listing items for exactly the vendor price, I think it might be the opposite; people DO check the 'fine print', but they're totally misunderstanding what it means. I'm pretty well convinced at this point that some people either see the vendor price and think that's some sort of average of what the item goes for on the MB, or don't understand how to go about vendoring an item.

That is even worse lack of attention. The default price are the vendor price. To me that means that the person who's selling at MB don't even bothered to change the price. That makes me wonder why that person don't just sell it to vendor NPC, since it's faster gil than selling it at vendor price - tax.

The vendor price is the default price. Those people still don't read the fine print, but just click on OK without changing anything on the price.

Haha... I was actually wondering if anyone else scoured the market board for cheap listings like me.

I assume some ppl think they're being nice and just selling the items so that somebody else who wants it can get it... but on the flip side they might be undercutting somebody who gathered and crafted the item themselves and are trying to make gil for some other upgrade... /shrug


Personally, I don't like seeing items on the MB for Vendor price or less... so I buy them all up and vendor them myself. I mean, I haven't math'd it out, but I have this long theory that cheaper mats means more crafters means more competition for high level crafting items means I can't sell my end game stuff for as much...

You can make more just selling vender sold materials for 2-4 times what the vender charges.

When I first start any MMO I usually look for cheap listings to vender but then you can move on from there.

You do realize that only a small fraction of players come to the forums and of that small fraction about 99% already know this. In fact people do it all the time to undercut what is on the market.
