    Tanking in trials?

First forum post so I apologize if anything seems off with my post, feel free to point anything out too.

I recently picked up both DRK and PLD and I know how to tank in dungeons, but tanking in trials seems intimidating to me still due to the presence of two tanks. I have some basic ideas of what to do, that the off tank acts as a DPS and back up tank incase the MT dies in most dungeons, and im pretty sure I get how to tank swap (MT shirks, OT uses provoke, MT disables tank stance, correct?), but I still have a few questions.

    1. Is that how you tank swap correctly? Did I miss anything?

    2. What about tank stance? Does the OT leave it on after the MT gets all the enmity after a few seconds? Or does the OT put it on only after tank swapping?

    3. What determines the MT? Whoever rushes the boss first?

    4. What are some signs that I should tank swap? What are some trials that involve tank swapping?

    5. Is there anything I can do too be a better tank in trials? Sorta like a set of unwritten rules? Common etiquette?

That's basically it. Plus OT putting tank stance on.

    2. What about tank stance? Does the OT leave it on after the MT gets all the enmity after a few seconds? Or does the OT put it on only after tank swapping?
OT shouldn't have tank stance on unless they are tanking. It'll get messy if the AI swaps between the two. I personally watch for the tankbuster cast and put my tank stance on to be ready, shirked, and a shield on the MT for good measure in case the healer can't keep up.

    3. What determines the MT? Whoever rushes the boss first?
Ya got a chat log, talk. Please. If I get a trial I'm confident with in roulette, I put my stance on. Often the other tank takes theirs off. Or if we're synced and neither have it on, whoever puts it up first is saying, "I want to MT." But talking still helps. A simple, "Do you want to MT?" or "Can I MT/OT."

    4. What are some signs that I should tank swap? What are some trials that involve tank swapping?
Tank busters. Extreme/high end duty content generally. Tankbuster will add debuffs and whatnot to kill the tank if they don't lose aggro and get hit again.

    5. Is there anything I can do too be a better tank in trials? Sorta like a set of unwritten rules? Common etiquette?

Talk. Before the trial starts, you can talk to the other tank and ask questions, if someone's got a problem with it they shouldn't be playing an online game built on team work.

1: Close. The OT needs to provoke FIRST, then the previous MT uses Shirk. Doing it the other way around just dumps enmity into the wind.

2: Depends on the fight. For some you'll want the OT to put theirs on once the MT has a lead, and keep it on when they swap due to mechanics which target the OT based on who's second place on enmity.

4: The reasons tank swaps exist is due to vulnerability stacks. If an unavoidable attack is applying them, that's a sign that a swap is required to avoid death. The two most common types are a tankbuster that applies it, so you can't take two in a row, or an attack right before that applies it followed by a tankbuster, demanding a swap in-between the two abilities. Occasionally there are some outliers (Like O10S applying a debuff that will kill you if the boss hits you in a particular stance), but that's most of them. You can also swap to manage cooldowns effectively (Like if using invulnerability skills to ignore mechanics)

You should be able to leave tank stance on as long as you use shirk on the new tank.
