And yet the director and producer himself uses one in Live Letters.
That is literally wrong.
I heavily disagree with this.
I play on PC and play with the Gamepad (+Keyboard and mouse).
This is one of the most incorrect and misinformed statements I have read in a while. What even is this?Unless your sticks have been made/set to digital, we definitely can tell. M/KB players' characters start off sprinting and come to full stop when moving and stopping. Whereas controller players accelerate into a walk then run and likewise slow down when coming to a stop.

Level 80: SAM | SCH | PLD | DNC
Leveling: AST | WAR | MCH
You have no idea what are you missing.
I played mmorpgs with keyboard and mouse my entire life, and when i first tried FFXIV on PS4 i just cannot play KB+M mmorpgs anymore. You have soooo much easier access to most of the buttons on the controller, no more have to do joga with fingers across keyboard, it is much much harder to missclick something, and you could lie on you back with legs up on the wall and play like a king on a bed if you have big screen or something.
This is soooo much better.
PS4 has virtually no difference when compared to PC. The only real difference is whether you play with the base PS4 controller or with KBM; both of which work fine, and neither of which can really be discerned from other players perspective.
Ignore it. As it pertains to this game, PS4 = PC. Anyone thinking otherwise is only deluding themselves. Let them live in their fantasy world.
I'm on PC and always thought controller play would reduce reaction time. Theeeeen I started using a controller on PC and my reaction time went up with my abilities being all in easy reach.
So this guy probably didn't know what he was talking about.
anything u can do with a controller, u can do with a keyboard. (when it comes to abilities)
L and R buttons act as modifiers.
You have L, R, L>R, R>L
4 modifiers, for 8 buttons.
Then double tap is LL and RR, another 8 each.
For PC you have CNTRL, ALT, and SHIFT (C,A,S for short)
So you have C, A, S, C+A, C+S, A+S. most people use 1-4 easily. (I dont) you also have ~ for PC users, which is easy to hit next to 1.
replacements for L3, R3, and touch pad can be just about anything. tab, q, e, r, f, z, x, c, etc.
I dont remember if it allows triple modifiers like some MMOs, such as C+A+S.
I personally use the ASDW side as the left side of a controller, and the num pad as the right side of a controller.
It has all the same amount of buttons, plus more.
the only exception is that the Dpad replacement is harder to get used to, and arrows on the right side as a less comfy version of a thumb stick.
(but i prefer the amount of buttons over the controller)
I know, I was KB/M for years and am strictly such in other games but this game has so many abilities and I have tiny hands so reaching is an issue for FFXIV when it isn't for other games. Comfortably reaching, anyway.anything u can do with a controller, u can do with a keyboard. (when it comes to abilities)

Targetting takes the most getting used to, otherwise I am finding controller better for my hands.
It also helps that FFXIV was actually made with controllers in mind so they're not just an after thought.

Ohh, I'd have joined that party out of spite. I'm quite positive I'd be able to perform without them being any the wiser to me playing on PS4. Sure, playing on controller occasionally affects responsiveness, but it's very subtle and would maybe only matter if you wanted to be absolutely optimal. For a learning party? That's hardly going to matter at all.
