Part of the reason I stopped tanking was the utter disrespect tanks get from the other roles often, its just baffling.

You do a countdown for dungeon bosses? I thought countdown tanks were a joke! I didn't know they were real! I have never done a single countdown for a dungeon boss since I started in 2.0. There's no reason to do that. You deserved to be kicked.
Now I'm reading some people do a ready check for dungeon bosses!? I'm so glad I main tank. I already can't stand other tanks when I'm healing in dungeons as it is.

you have this mindset now but just wait till you pull the boss and the healer has no mana to keep you alive. You do a countdown for dungeon bosses? I thought countdown tanks were a joke! Ready checks are more annoying than countdowns, because they steal your pointer. This has happened to me hundreds of times:
- Approach arena
- Target boss
- Click menu button
- Move pointer to "focus target"
- ARE YOU READY? pops up
- Yell at TV
- Click "Yes" then hit my 3 buttons to focus target on the boss
I never understood why ready check needs to popup in your face but vote dismiss just creeps in the corner for you to select.
I definitely noticed that this is a new trend. I use the Blacklist feature a lot more often recently, and that was originally solely reserved for RMTs.
I've let idiot DPS tank what they pulled. But then, those were exenuating circumstances.
I think if I specifically tell them "Don't start the next fight until we deal with the current fight", and a DPS deliberately rushes off before the current group is dead to start a new fight, I have no obligation to save them.

Don´t do countdowns in dungeons pls, all buffs will run out.
If someone pulls, just take the boss. Tha new aggro system with tankstance is super op since Shb, there isn´t even a problem.
After that you can still tell them, to not pull for you.
If that happens often you are probably to slow.
In the above scenario, at least 2 out of 3 players felt you should be dismissed. It was also a rightful kick, since you switched of tankstance and didn´t do your job (tanking).

I think it is the tank job to make the pull, if any dps don’t want to lose the buff can simple say and talk to the tank.
However, I think OP should also tell the dps what you think after the first fight
It is basic respect after all, the dps lack of it doesn’t mean you have to lower yourself to his/her level
I bet you anything the healer and DRG both, if not all three, voted to kicked you. What makes you think wasting three people's time by causing a wipe (or stressing the healer out and wasting their mana by having them focus heal the DPS for a while) is worth your entitlement? Note that in this scenario, everyone else still did their job except you. I don't understand where this tank entitlement even comes from. You're a part of a team just like everyone else, not the star of the show. Your job is to tank hits. If DPS pulls, then say something in chat, but suck it up and do your job.
This is an MMO. Do your part and communicate with words when things like this happen rather than being a baby about it and causing a wipe that just wastes everyone's time. I guarantee you that you did not teach that DPS or anyone else in that party a lesson.

Suppose the days of "You spank it, you tank it" are long past? Its pretty rude to pull ahead of the tank. It doesn't matter if you want to keep a buff up or that a tank can gain aggro easy, its simply disrespectful. If you can't play nicely pick up your toys and go home.
