    Dragoon Limit Break

When they took away my summoner tank pet I decided to give Dragoon a whirl. I have never played a melee char but I like Dragoon. I read up on the internet that Dragoon has a limit break ability which is initiated with DragonSong Dive. But that ability is not in my list of abilities. Is the advice dated and it has been replaced - possibly by Mirage Dive?

If that is true is this the correct rotation?

    Jump + Mirage + 30 secs + Jump + Mirage + GeirsKogul + Nastrond + 10 secs + Nastrond + [10 secs + Nastrond]

Final question: That's a fairly lengthy rotation so am wondering how well this works in a high movement fight with lots of boss AOE?

That's just the basic limit break that every job has access to. The animations are specific for each job, but the function is the same for each role.

And that's definitely the right rotation. Just those skills and nothing else. May seem like a lot but you'll get it after a while.

    "Dragonsong Dive (DRG)
Dragonsong Dive is the level 3 limit break for Dragoon. It executes a single target attack with potency of 9000."

Every job has there only animation for limit break 3. The party only gets 1 limit break to use at a time (all 8 people do not get a personal limit break). Each roles limit breaks 1-2 are the same animation. Ex. All melee dps have limit break one, braver, and limit break 2, blade dance. However the animation changes for the limit break 3. Ex. Dragoon limit break 3 is Dragonsong Dive and Monk’s is Final Heaven. They have different animations but perform the same amount of damage, so a dragoon doesn’t do more damage using the limit break than any other melee dps. Also buffs do not affect limit break damage.

Melee dps limit breaks are single target therefore they do more damage than ranged and caster limit breaks. Ranged limit breaks do more than caster limit breaks since they are straight lines and have to be aimed precisely. Casters are the weakest limit breaks but cover a large circular AoE.

Thanks for that info. I leveled my summoner from 0 to 70 and had no idea there was such a thing as Limit Break! I purchased my current level 70 Dragoon but already feel like I have better dps and more in-game knowledge than the 70 levels with my summoner. I have never done a raid with 24 people so will not be seeing the Level 3 break, but for Trials and parties of 4 is it courteous to ask if/when I should use it on their behalf?

melee are expected to use the limit break outside of certain exceptions, as they do the most damage with it. Also, sometime you should check out the older alliance raids, they are casual content and you can get a chance to hit that level 3 limit break too

Also the damage of a limit break is based on average weapon ilvl for the party, so its never a loss for you to hit it over someone else.

In dungeons it's often better for a Caster or Ranged Physical DPS to Limit Break a large pack rather than saving it for a boss.
