WONDERING - why no BATTLE LEVES for SB & ShB?

I was wondering why SE didn't add any Battle Leves to StormBlood & ShadowBringers. For the Challenge Log, I usually do the same old HW battle levels to get those exp bonuses if I'm leveling up an alt. Not to mention getting gear, food, weapons, & vetures.

They aren't very popular and are not a good way to level combat classes when compared the other options the game has.

This makes me sad too. I really enjoyed them as a change in pace when I got tired of grinding dungeons or fates. It's always good to have more sources of exp than less.

Because laziness. It was far from the only thing they started to strip away in SB that made it feel incomplete.

Given how many quests starting from SB onward did not even have journal entries like all previous quests had, I'm going to assume that combat leves were pruned for a similar reason -- they couldn't be bothered to write up that many quest descriptions.

This isn't the reason. That could easily have been fixed if they wanted to.

Laziness is a cop out answer when people don't like changes. I see it a lot around here.

The reason is simple. People didn't do them, there were many alternatives, and leves are better spent on crafters and gatherers.

Nah, they were just bad. Not to mention a chore to do to begin with, when they moved to cities being the source of Leves, it got really annoying handing them in, you'd have to load through three screens instead of just one once you were done with your leves.

Which means you're doing less mindless stuff like job quests and doing more things like dungeons and FATEs. I'm frankly happy we have role quests, kind of hope they keep carrying on with this trend because it helps build lore (such as the 5.0 role quests) and also means it's less work overall for me to just jump straight back into dungeons.

Was there ever a reason to do combat leves?
    FATEs are much better.

Whether FATES are better or not, it all about having different options.

Denying it is a cop out defense when the evidence is right there in front of your face.

The reason is simple. People didn't do them,
People didn't do them because they didn't bother making them worthwhile. They easily could have (just look at how much more XP DoH leves give for far less time/effort), but chose not to. Seeing how much SB pruned in the way of quest descriptions/journal entries, it is really not difficult to see why.

And in doing so kill another leveling method. Craft/Gather leves give an absurd amount of EXP—enough you can level all eight crafters from 70 to 80 in a week. If they allowed this with battle jobs, well, why would people touch roulettes or Deep Dungeon? You can only incentivize so many things. Given how easy and simplistic battle leves were, they couldn't ever rewarded a lot of EXP or they default to becoming the best method. So they were eventually axed entirely when people stopped doing them in Heavensward.
