as a PLD and WHM Main...

I think a lot of the fun is experiencing things for the first time, including mechanics. Although i hate having to sit through cutscenes in the msq duty finder, its great not to ruin the experience for new people. A free company, and announcing that your new should help with your experience. There are only a small percentage of people who are like those who you described. Make sure you have the correct gear on, and eventually you'll be fine. We all started from the same place (well minus the jump potions and story skips now, we've all gone through this at some point or another. Enjoy !

But now, the expectation that you're supposed to look up and know everything about a dungeon before doing it is literally ruining it for me. I understand being frustrated when someone doesn't know the mechanics, trust me. But getting pissed off at someone for not knowing when it's their first time going through is so stupid.

Literally my fiance feels like they CAN'T tank a dungeon without memorizing the mechanics completely before going through because they know people who've done it before will get pissed off and yell at them for it.

I absolutely hate this bullshit. Let people learn as they go. You shouldn't have to research things before doing them.
Just yolo it. For most dungeons and even the regular trials, as long as you apply a small bit of thought, youll pass 90% of the mechanics without an issue. This means you dont need a guide. The only time people really want you to use a guide is for EX/Savage content, or if you are extremely green to a roll.

I YOLO'd Susano as DRK. Before the fight started the other tank asked if I wanted to take point, I said I didn't know what I was doing, he said he didn't either so we just jumped in and had fun. Managed to only die once due to being on one side of the big AoE and the safe zone was on the other.

It's cool, don't worry about other people's expectations. They do not matter. I definitely don't. First time I did innocence ex I did it blind. Same with Titania ex. I don't look up guides. Learn as I go. I told them I was going in blind before we entered, so nobody try to say something about that. I don't think dungeon guides are necessary at all, I actually don't think I have actually looked up one, at least for relevant content. I have looked up older dungeon guides as a refresher though if the party wipes (text).

The only things I personally want from players, is to utilize their class kit properly, example use your aoe combos when needed. I prefer to blind run as well, and I hate video format guides and refuse to watch them unless I really cannot get something down - but that's after trying blind.

Oh, I was in Titania NM on Sunday of early access, and specified I wanted a blind run. The other healer pretty much ignored my request and started explaining: 'Let me enlighten you then.' And proceeded to explain mechs, while I let them know I'm ignoring chat and closing it. They went ahead and explained everything anyways, from what I could see in chat after I was done. Funny thing, they died early, and I was alone doing most of the healing.

I don't know why people are starting to go out of their way to force you to play however they want. It's happening more often than before.
Even if the game hasn't even officially launched. Same one patch day, I understand some people are free, or like to rush through the story, but I don't.
If people say they want to do it blind, I let them, if they ask for tips, I give them. Simple.

Hell, I did a 60+ min Aurum vale run with a new tank, that was so green. I kept explaining him how to use his kit, and do mechs, until we did it. He thanked me afterwards.

Yeah, the healer probably shouldn't of explained it.
But this does remind me of an incident in a 24man run, where some new people wanted a completely blind run, and other new people wanted a heads up on the mechanics.
So someone explained it, and they got raged at by the blind runners. And the ones who wanted an explanation raged at the blind runners, and it turned into a horrible mess.
Sometimes it's really best just to make a PF for blind runs.

Same thing happened to me but as dancer and Innocence. Healer went "ok let me explain" so i said "I'm fine with you explaining if people want it, but I'll swap tabs, good luck all, have fun".
That very healer was the first one to die whilst I was the last man standing with Innocence at 30% and me not dying or taking damage from mechanics outside of AOE . Sadly we only wiped once, I would have enjoyed seeing them die again, but I'm evil like that.

The game literally tells you that there are new people when you start.
If you want to go into a raid blind you should use party finder so that people know you are new and there may be a few wipes. As others have said alts are very common and if you don't say you are new most of us will assume you know what you are doing.

Never seen anyone get mad at not knowing a dungeon though.

It sucks that you've experienced something like that, but it's usually a good idea to tell your party "I'm new to the dungeon/tanking" before a run. If someone still wants to give you grief over your performance after that then report them and if it continues try to vote/kick them for harassment.

This is a strange complaint to hear, to me. I would love to hear any actual examples of this, and how often you've encountered it, because I think I've only ever seen people get visibly frustrated after someone wipes to something multiple times. Dungeons, in particular, are usually quite simple, so I can't even imagine what you or your fiance are screwing up.

I suspect you and/or your fiancee haven't actually had that many unpleasant experiences, it's just that the bad ones tend to stick out in your memory much more.
