I guess Oberon is the queen![]()
its possible... cause what happens to males that take the throne... since apparently the system doesnt char what race you are when you take the throne you become the lord of the fey so does that mean a male takeing the throne would be oberon or would they also be titania ... big thonk
Both King and Titania are titles within FFXIV, the fae adopt gender neutral pronouns and thus would be considered nonbinary, and with that they can adopt whatever suits them for titles/ranks/words. This is why
When Feo Ul becomes King Titania we can still refer to them as Feo Ul as that is their actual name rather than King Titania which is a formality.
So technically their full name now would be King Titania Feo Ul

Apart from Feo Ul, who uses gendered pronouns when referring to herself. I don't know if that's in any way related to her being derided as the "madblossom," or if it's just her temper.
Titania is also a title, literally meaning "Queen of the Faeries"
As far as we can tell, the Pixies have a very different concept of gender, seemingly having no conception of it at all. They pretty much never use gendered pronouns, although the Crystal Exarch does refer to Feo Ul as female once. So to them using the title King probably makes as much sense as anything else.
Like Espiritduo said, the leader of Voeburt had been a king before they took the place over, so they just adopted that title. If you didn't know the nuances of a language, or really understand the culture that it belongs to, I don't think it's that unreasonable to assume that King would be a genderless title. We don't know if Voeburt had a queen at the time, we just know there was one in the past (from the sidequest where you're helping the pixie that wants to be popular). But hearing it's the same in other languages and then with the explanation it just bugged me even more. The Pixies are genderless and named the title after the King of Voeburt? This is just so unreasonable. Why did the devs come up with this, just to change it from Queen to King? The Pixies also could've named it after the Queen of Voelburt.
Also, yes, we know Titania is the Queen and Oberon is the King, but there's also the fact that Titania is a title as well, not a name, so I suspect even if the fae folk did have genders in this game, and we got a male ruler, they'd still be called Titania, not Oberon.

Maybe King Titania is just a fancy way to say Giant king?Coz you know, pixie becomes big when they become King.
It's explained in game why they added King to the Titania title. While the first Titania was fighting the Light Warden, during the fight those Fae that remembered Voeburt, while witnessing the fight, had seen flashes of the Voeburt's King in the way Titania fought to protect them from the Light Warden. So after they sealed her in the palace they added King to her title in remembrance to Voeburt and to honor her sacrifice.
I did notice one Nu Mou NPC being referred to specifically as "he," but for the most part this seems to hold true. Given the fact that the fae don't reproduce the traditional way and given their lack of secondary sex characteristics, I think it's pretty fair to assume they don't have much of a concept of sex or gender.
I did see it mentioned earlier in the thread that we've historically referred to certain women as kings, which is a good point. The kings of Egypt are a great example.
