Used the 70 job boost, now what?

I bought FFXIV, Shadowbringers and the 70 job boost.

I played many years ago and didn't enjoy the game, but wanted to see what the later game had to offer so I skipped all the early stuff.

The boost doesn't give me an idea of where to go or what to do though.. how do I start the Shadowbringers quest line? I've heard I need to go to a certain area, but I can't get there without unlocking the teleport.

Any ideas apart from should have started from level 1?

You bought the job boost, so you have to make the main story quest through ARR, Heavensward and Stormblood to get to Shadowbringers.
Or you you just buy the story skip as well.

If you only bought the job boost, you still have all of the MSQ left to do - you'd need to buy a story skip as well. Personally, I'm not really in favor of this - you're likely to be lost if you just jump straight into Shadowbringer's story - but that's the only way you can immediately start in on it.

Relatedly, please make sure you spend some time with a training dummy and reading your toolitps/looking up rotations for your job before you jump into new content; too many people who buy job skips do this and cause major problems in new content.

There should be a UI element on your screen (I think it's there by default, anyway...) that you can click on to show you where the next Main Story Quest is located.

Given your description, I can confidently say you did not purchase the story skip potion. You say you are trying to get to a zone to unlock the first mission for ShadowBringers, but you cannot teleport there. That zone is Mor Dhona, and if you had purchased the story skip, it would have automatically unlocked the teleporter for that area. Even if you could teleport there, it would not matter. FFXIV's story mission structure is linear. There is no picking and choosing. You have to do every one of them in order OR story-skip to jump immediately to the point in the linear mission-chain where you can accept the first ShadowBringers mission (ie: Story-Skip Potion).

Given you've already made a substantial monetary investment in the game, the expansion, and the job boost, I am sad to say that you're going to need to spend $25 more to get into ShadowBringers sooner rather than later.

Somewhere on your screen should be a hud element that looks something like this:



except it will say what your current/next MSQ is. Click that and it will show you where to go.

This hud element will also point out important side quests like job quests as they become available.
