Is it still possible to use PS3 game codes?

Was looking to see what a PS4 copy of ARR would cost & found a marketplace seller on Best Buy selling Final Fantasy XIV Online: The Complete Experience (ARR & HW+Baron Circlet & Baron Earrings & Chocobo Chick Courier ) for $30 Canadian, with the PS3 no longer being supported I was wondering what would happen if someone bought & tried to redeem a PS3 code, would it be upgraded to a PS4 code or something?

No, it will not be upgraded. You have to buy a license that matches your platform—so, you’d have to buy a PS4 license to play on the PS4. Same for PC (PC license) or Mac (Mac license).

Were PS3 and PS4 treated as separate platforms? Where they listed separately in the account when they were both available?

I don't recall. I want to say no, but support ended so long ago I no longer remember. I had the ps3 version and was automatically upgraded to the ps4 version.

Chances are slim but would be nice if it was extended indefinitely & is still possible, otherwise it's a waste to buy a PS3 copy unless it's a collector that buys it & keeps it unopened, or maybe the DLC codes (Baron Circlet & Baron Earrings & Chocobo Chick Courier) could still be used? Was thinking of getting ARR+HW for PS4 as I still have my ARR code from Amazon/Twitch Prime & I received a free HW code in a email so was thinking of giving the codes + a PS4 copy to my brother so he could play with me when he has time/in the mood to play games.

Well, if they are preorder codes those are long expired (for the items), if they are collectors edition codes, those are not separate from the game codes and can't be redeemed separately.

They were considered separate. I started this game on PS3 since my PC at the time was not a gaming PC—and then I switched to PS4 a month or so later after getting one. I had to purchase codes for both licenses (for the base game—HW was a PS4 code when I purchased it). The PS3 license was available for free upgrades in a period after the release of 4.0 due to PS3 support being dropped for the game at that time, but any time prior to that, the codes had to be bought separately for the two separate platforms.

Those DLC codes expired on December 31, 2015, if I remember correctly. So they will no longer work.

There are people that still sell the collectors editions of the original 1.0 game for...anyone who would want to collect that, I suppose. But it is defunct now (since you can’t play 1.0 anymore), and, as far as I know, any bonus codes from it have a chance of not even working.
