I guess it would be nice to at least have the choice, if they could get it to work for all classes.
I personally wouldn't change to it though.

"Stand in the ashes of a trillion dead souls and ask the ghosts if honor matters."
"The silence is your answer."
And create an entire subset of players who think they can just 'spam the attack button' with no consideration of which attack grants them job gauge, or requires a positional, or inflicts a debuff, or maintains a buff.
You will need to keep a constant mental count of how many times you've hit that button, and whether or not you've interrupted a combo.
"I've hit that 7 times, but after the 5th I used another weaponskill, so the next hit should be my buff..."
How is that fun?

It's even more simple than today. You dont have to think about which button to press after the starter. It's not that you mash one button all the time. And IIRC no kombo consists of more than 4 weapon skills. But your question already tells that you did not have any contact with such system. Or can you imagine a combat being engaging with only 5 skills and 2 buffs?

Also DRG's combo is 5 buttons long.
No less fun than 123 123 123 123 123.And create an entire subset of players who think they can just 'spam the attack button' with no consideration of which attack grants them job gauge, or requires a positional, or inflicts a debuff, or maintains a buff.

I feel like most the people who are against this have never experienced the joy of playing DRG and having their main combos take up almost an entire hotbar all by themselves.
