I just tried healing again after taking a 2 year break, switched to tank, and was enjoying it but once I got to the end game, its back to usual. Even with the removal of a large chunk of the healer DPS spells and abilities, the player community is still demanding, not asking, demanding that healers still DPS.

Not a welcome experience for me one bit. I don't mind contributing when I can but being outright told that I am causing trouble if I am focusing on healing because... well...they need to be healed (people standing in the fire), it really gets to me. I cant DPS if I am spending my mana on rezzes or heals or needing to save mana for a mechanic, etc. I know the devs are trying to reduce the need for healer DPS but it isn't working.

TLDR: Healer DPS is more important than anything else, if you don't, your dead weight, get lost.

Big part of why I don't heal in this game. I hate that DPSing is essentially a requirement. I mean, I'll throw out dps when I can, when I'm not doing anything else and have the mana for it. But no, I am not going to work on optimizing and maximizing my damage output when I'm playing a freaking healer. No thanks. Not interested.

I'll stick to actually playing a DPS.

Because unless your tank is wall-to-wall pulling with the gear expected 10 levels prior or without a single mitigation skill, there is simply no way to deal no damage without idling.

If you did bother to read, then you would have understood that the OP isn't dpsing because they are HEALING. You know, their JOB? They aren't being idle.

Unless they have tanks that stand in AOEs and refuse to use CDs, all healers still find instances to DPS even in the ShB dungeons. During boss fights, especially. However, like I said to someone else, this assumption probably came about because the "standing around waiting for people to take damage and dealing 0 DPS because I'm a healer not a damage dealer" playstyle tends to be the preferred playstyle of those who make threads with this theme.

At least as a WHM, you can't not DPS anymore now that Afflatus Misery exists. But who am I kidding, they won't use it because those free and instant cast Afflatus Heals are to be saved for emergencies, right?

In this case, I'd say Kaedan is right - because OP explicitly said they contribute to DPS when they're able to, but focus more on healing and can't always fit DPS in. It didn't sound like they were "idling" to me at all.

This. There is still way too much time we would stand around doing nothing.

1st rule of playing a caster:
ABC - Always Be Casting.

If no healing is required, that means mashing dat DPS button till you fall asleep.
