Cannot get past loading screen (error code 17)

I started playing the starter edition on steam a week or so before patch 5.0 and the game ran fine.

After patch 5.0 I started getting random dx11 crashes (which has been reported in another thread) which I reinstalled to fix, and after that I started getting a new error where the game crashes while loading after I pick my character.

I reinstalled again to fix that, and for a couple hours of gameplay in Gridania it was fine, but when I fast traveled to little ala mhigo it came back and now the game is unplayable again.

I'd rather not reinstall the game again as it takes 15 hours to download each time.

Good afternoon and thank you for posting in the Final Fantasy XIV Technical Support Forums.

Does the crash happen anywhere else in game? Are there any other programs running at the same time as the game client? Could you provide a system report? Simply go to the 'Config' option on the Final Fantasy XIV launcher and to the right of 'System Information' click on 'Display.'

Thank you for visiting the Final Fantasy XIV Technical Support Forums.

The game always crashed while loading after picking a character, so I'm not sure if it happened anywhere else in-game.

I reinstalled the game again anyway, I've been playing somewhat over a couple days and the crash seems to have disappeared. But I'm not sure if it'd stay gone since it came back for previous reinstalls.

If it helps, my PC has two HDDs and every time I installed the game on my secondary, the crash happened, but this time I installed on my primary HDD instead.
