So since I've been leveling a tank, I think the smart thing currently is just to take a quick look over the gear your party members are wearing and made a decision. I did a Bardam's Mettle run last night with a healer in level 210 gear, so obviously I wasn't going to pull big because I knew without asking that the healer wouldn't be able to keep up with the heals needed (despite the obvious annoyance this caused to the DPS in the party)

Conversely I've seen situations where everyone has good gear, I make a large pull, and then burn through all my cooldowns on one pull because nothing is dying, and when I look at my DPS, they're all doing single target rotations. So it's small pulls for the rest of the dungeon.

It was stated well by a previous response to this thread. Big pulls are on everyone in the party to be successful. If all four players aren't willing and able to make them happen, then they're not worth the effort, and you'll get through things faster if you allow your healer more DPS up time than if you make them struggle to keep you alive.

Thank you, you can tank for me anytime.

But pulling is a team effort, and everyone needs to be up for it.
As a tank I usually make a testpull to see if the group is capable of handling big ones. If I have to use up the majority of my cooldowns on the first pull and the mobs are still at like 40-50% HP, I usually tend to make smaller pulls.

This is the kind of person that needs to be pulling.

One who realizes that you have to pull according to the make up of the party, to keep things flowing along at a good pace with what the group can handle. I'll take one that does this any day over a puller that is willing to repeatedly and forcibly wipe a group until they meet their exceptions or get upset and vocal when the party can't meet them or refuses to play along with them.

Thank you. And yes. I’ve been the dps with that kind of tank and always think the amount of time we spent trying pulls three and four times is counterproductive. That if you run into this, it’s a better use of everyone’s time to just take things a little slower.
